Benecio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey Are THE THREE STOOGES

In what is sure to be one of the most random casting collaborations of all-time, Variety is reporting that MGM has signed Benecio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey Toro to play Moe, Larry, and Curly, respectively, in The Farrelly Brothers "Three Stooges" movie. Carrey plans to pack on forty pounds of weight to play Curly and I'm assuming that Penn is so method he'll pack on forty pounds of hair to play Larry.
What's notable about the project is that it's not planned as a biopic but as a legitimate "Three Stooges" movie in the style of the old Columbia Pictures shorts. While I admire that they're playing it straight and their desire to make a comedy rather than a "Behind the Laughter" Oscar-grab, I still can't get past this casting. I mean, looking at the pictures and then looking at the actors, I can kind of see it for Penn and Del Toro but do they really have the comedic chops to pull off the slapstick and physical humor? Carrey can certainly do the humor but that's going to be an insane physical transformation. All I know is that this project certainly has my attention now.
