Patrick Wilson is one of the most interesting actors working today. He's got great versatility which is exciting because he's relatively new and there are so many places we have yet to see him go. One of those areas is in comedy (although "Little Children" definitely has its dark comedic touches) and hopefully he'll get to shine there as he joins Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, and Jeff Goldblum for "Morning Glory". The Hollywood Reporter describes the film as "about a pair of antagonistic anchors (Ford and Keaton) on a struggling morning show and the up-and-coming news producer (McAdams) who tries to get them under control and boost ratings. Wilson will play McAdams' romantic partner."
And just like that, I'm not excited. It sounds like "Anchorman" for people who don't like "Anchorman" and I want nothing to do with those people. I'm sure Wilson will probably be great but I'm depressed at the thought of safe comedy that won't offend anyone but will get a brief chuckle out of baby boomers who can't be bothered to see movies that would actually challenge them. But since Wilson isn't the lead, hopefully he'll escape from this mess unscathed.
