It's hard to believe that it's been almost four years since we last saw a Peter Jackson film. We used to get one of those a year. Way to slack off, Pete.
In all seriousness, I'm highly looking forward to the release of Jackson's adaptation of Alice Sebold's "The Lovely Bones" which is about a fourteen-year-old girl (played by Saoirse Ronan) who watches from heaven her family's reaction to her rape and murder by a neighbor. The film also stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, and Susan Sarandon. The story, while it will offer Jackson some room to work his special effects magic, is more in line with one of his earlier films (and an under-appreciated gem in my book), "Heavenly Creatures".
Check out the shot below [via Empire] of Ronan's character Susie in heaven. That or they've added a scene where Susie now has the ability to walk on water on a beautiful but lonely day. As /Film notes, there was a bit of a dispute between Jackson and his art director over what heaven should look like. Their solution: there's a giant Empire logo over everything. Members of all faiths will find this controversial.
