Star Wars Celebration IV to Host Special Preview of Star Wars Themed FANBOYS

Coming to the Los Angeles Convention Center next month is Star Wars Celebration IV and it promises to be an exciting time if you’re a fan of the George Lucas movies. Obviously there will be tons of announcements about all things Star Wars and I’m sure they’ll do something cool like premiere some of the new animated series or even let slip some new info about the live action one. Whatever they decide to do know I’ll be attending the con so you’ll be able to read about it here.

But I’ve got another reason to be excited about the convention. The other day Lucasfilm announced that Director Kyle Newman would be in attendance to premiere some footage from his Star Wars themed “Fanboys” movie.

If you don’t know about the film, “Fanboys” is about a group of friends who decide to steal the print of Episode One back in 1998. The reason is one of their friends is dying and he’s a life long "Star Wars" fan, so before he dies they want to make sure he see’s it.

The great part of the film is that you don’t have to be a Star Wars fan to dig it as the film is more about friendship than anything else. But if you’re a fan of "Star Wars" there are a lot of additional jokes that are aimed squarely at you.

I actually saw the film at a test screening awhile back (click here for the review) and loved it. I think the fans are going to eat this film up when it finally arrives later this year.

Anyway, I was going to write up the Lucasfilm press release about Fanboys when they sent it out but I decided to do a bit more before posting it. What I did was contact Kyle directly to find out what we can expect at the con and I’ve received a personal message for everyone out there. The highlight is that he wants to bring as much of the cast as he can to the convention as well as premiering footage from the movie.

Here is the message from Kyle Newman and below that I’ve posted the press release for more info on Celebration IV and how to get tickets...

I have been looking forward to C4 for almost two years -- since the last one which I attended -- when Fanboys was still a dream.  So this is going to be great... going back to share the movie with other true fans of the saga.  I remember standing in line at C3 in Indianapolis, telling people about Fanboys.  Most of them thought i was crazy -- how are you going to pull that off?  But we did and we even got to shoot at the Skywalker Ranch.

Lucasfilm has been so generous and supportive since day one.  Almost like they let me borrow their sand for my sandbox.  So I am honored that they invited Fanboys to be part of Star Wars 30th Anniversary Celebration because this film is one giant love letter to Star Wars and the fan community.

I will be showing some completed scenes from the movie.  Stuff that no one else has seen before.  It's going to be a very sizeable chunk.  The plan is for all of the main cast to join me on stage -- Sam Huntington, Jay Baruchel, Dan Fogler, Kristen Bell... (Marquette will be overseas filming a new project) but Ray Park and Jaime King should also be there to support along with a few surprises.  We're also preparing a hilarious behind the scenes look at the making of Fanboys -- from casting to post production.  It was simply an amazing experience that we can’t wait to share.

Don't miss this event... It is your destiny...

Kyle

Star Wars CELEBRATION IV to Host Special Preview of Star Wars-Themed Comedy Fanboys

Star Wars fans will meet Fanboys on Friday, May 25, when the world’s biggest Star Wars party hosts an exclusive look at select scenes from the upcoming comedy, followed on Saturday by a special panel discussion with the filmmakers.

In Fanboys, director Kyle Newman has fashioned an uproarious comedy that follows a group of young friends on a cross-country quest to break into Skywalker Ranch and see Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace before it is released. Fanboys stars Sam Huntington (Superman Returns), Chris Marquette (“Joan of Arcadia”), Dan Fogler (the upcoming Kung Fu Panda), Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars”), Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen (both of the upcoming Knocked Up).  Fanboys is a Weinstein Company presentation being released in theaters by MGM.

In a special presentation – held on the 30th anniversary of Star Wars – fans at CELEBRATION IV will see scenes from the film that Newman will introduce on-stage.

As a special bonus, a unique “prequel” comic book to Fanboys, which follows the characters’ obsessive love of Star Wars, will be offered to fans as a limited edition at CELEBRATION IV.

“There couldn’t be a more perfect pairing of movie and audience,” said Newman, who will be joined by Fanboys producers Dana Brunetti, Matthew Perniciaro and Kevin Mann at CELEBRATION IV. “Fanboys has truly been a labor of love for everyone involved, so to know that some of the world’s biggest Star Wars fans will be among the first to see highlights from the movie is very exciting.”

In addition, members of the Fanboys cast are expected to attend CELEBRATION IV, pending production schedules for the popular young actors. Four-day and one-day passes to CELEBRATION IV are available online at http://www.gencon.com/2007/swciv. (Thursday, May 24, is a special preview day exclusively for members of the Official Star Wars Fan Club.)

CELEBRATION IV is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans from around the world for four days filled with live entertainment; celebrities from all six movies; special film and video presentations; special exhibits; exclusive merchandise sold at a 24-hour-a-day store; pop-culture tributes; immersive events; costume contests; and scores of additional activities.

More information on CELEBRATION IV can be obtained by visiting the official Star Wars website at http://www.starwars.com./celebration.
