Arcade Fire Jump on Richard Kelly's BOX

Canadian indie rock band Arcade Fire is taking some time off from promoting Barack Obama to score the upcoming Richard Kelly picture "The Box," according to a web posting by the film's music engineer Makus Dravs. Although neither Kelly nor the band have confirmed their involvement, Dravs posted that he was "off to Cananda to work with Arcade Fire on the Sound-track for the forth coming Richard Kelly film."

I am not sure if this is good news for Richard Kelly or bad news for Arcade Fire. Kelly could use some good news. Savage reviews for his last movie "Southland Tales" and the news that a "Donnie Darko" sequel is progressing without his input have turned Kelly from a 'promising newcomer' into a 'what the fuck happened there' within just a few short years. Arcade Fire, meanwhile, can only suffer if "The Box" goes all "Southland" – I mean they are the house band for the would-be president right now – they don't want to hitch their star to a sinking box.

"The Box" stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a suburban couple who receive a wooden box as a gift. As is usually the case when odd boxes enter your life, this one leads to unforeseen consequences. Frank Langella arrives with the news that the box will award its owner $1 million when the button inside is pressed. Unfortunately, pressing this button will also cause the death of another person somewhere in the world...someone they don't know. Allowed just 24 hours with the box, the pair must decide what is more important to them, their happiness or their humanity.

I don't know if "The Box" will be enough to save Richard Kelly - I'm pretty sure I've seen the same storyline on an episode of "The Outer Limits" or something – but hey, look what the guy did with a time traveling bunny and some Sparkle Motion. And if Arcade Fire were lured away from all those Obama rallies to help score "The Box" it has to be a good sign, right?

Stop thinking about boxes with magic buttons and press here.
