New Line Studios has hired Len Wiseman to direct their big budget (for them anyway) adaptation of the WAY popular video game "Gears of War," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Wiseman was the man behind the "Underworld" franchise and also helmed the last John McClane adventure, "Live Free or Die Hard."
In case you don't live near a male aged 10 to 40, "Gears of War" from Epic Games is one of the best selling titles on the XBox 360 platform. It centers on the members of a military unit known as Delta Squad who must battle underground malevolents known as 'the Locust Horde' to save the civilian inhabitants of the planet Sera. God, that sounds so stupid when you have to spell it out like that, but really - it all makes sense inside the game. And even if the plot isn't burning with originality, having a chainsaw on your bayonet is still cool.
"Wanted" writer Chris Morgan has been hired to write the screenplay for "Gears" and will develop the story in conjunction with Len Wiseman. That's probably a good idea – two heads are better than one when it comes to video game adaptations… as long as neither head belongs to Uwe Boll, of course.
