Kate Hudson is a NINE

Think back – way back to when Kate Hudson first caught your eye in Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous." Seems like a long time ago, doesn't it? The early promise we all nurtured for Hudson after her Oscar nominated debut has been returned with years of phoned-in performances in so-called 'comedies' like "You, Me and Dupree" and "Fool's Gold." If Kate Hudson's love-life wasn't so damned captivating, I may have begun doubting her place as an A-list movie-star.
Kate Hudson may never have equaled that first performance, but after 10 years, she is finally getting a chance to try. She has won a coveted role in the super-star-filled musical "Nine" from "Chicago" director Rob Marshall. Hudson will play a fashion journalist named Stephanie in the highly anticipated film which is based on the Broadway musical - which was, in turn, based on the classic Fellini film "8 1/2."
Hudson is said to have beat out both Sienna Miller and Anne Hathaway to secure her part in "Nine," which also stars Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Judi Densch. Javier Bardem was originally slated to play the lead role of a famous film-director dealing with a myriad of complex female relationships, but he dropped out and was eventually replaced by Daniel Day Lewis. Filming will begin in September.
The other big Kate Hudson news is that she may reunite with Matthew McConaughey for a third time to re-make the 70's hit "Foul Play." The original starred Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn – a comedy couple with a slightly better box-office average than McConaughey/Hudson. Kate confirms that negotiations have started on the "Foul Play" redux, but points out "we don't even have a writer yet."
Hudson will not be able to coast by in "Nine" the same way she will on a film like "Foul Play," for example. She will be sharing the screen with people who have actually won Oscars and she will have to carry a tune to boot. Let's hope that "Tiny Dancer" isn't the only song she learned how to sing.
