The first trailer has been released for the action film, Escape Plan.  Formerly titled “The Tomb“, Sylvester Stallone stars as Ray Breslin, the world’s foremost authority on structural security. Breslin is framed and incarcerated in a prison of his own master design, and must escape in order to find out who framed him and why.  Stallone is joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who plays a fellow inmate and accomplice in the jail break.  The trailer makes the flick look like an old-school action flick, and one that could be a whole lot of fun.  Schwarzenegger and Stallone could have played these roles twenty years ago, but they don’t seem too old to play them now.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Jim Caviezel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Amy Ryan.  Escape Plan opens September 27th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Escape Plan:

Escape Plan follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed every high security prison and has gained a vast array of survival skills. But all Ray’s ingenuity and knowledge are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from the master prison of his own design.

Schwarzenegger, in the role of Church, plays a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.

      Nice reference!

This actually looks pretty cool, better than those Expendables films. It seems like a better throwback to older action movies, probably because they gave it a real story.

    • Ben Wigler

Right, and it’s an original property, and they seem to have put a lot of thought into the look of the film and come up with a premise and style that is unique. That’s what truly kick ass action films used to do. Those black & white masks on the COs… pretty creepy.

looks to try to be a lot smarter than it probably is. And the last people i think are intellectually capable of escaping a high tech prison are stallone and arnold.

Better than being way stupider than it needs to be.

    • hanszimmer

why because muscle = low IQ? Where were you when Stallone wrote Rocky and Rambo? How about Schwarzenegger’s success across several industries.

    • Old Soldier

Yea, I thought Hollywood blackballed him years ago. Glad I was wrong.

  • Elephant

Better than expected. And New York doesn’t blow up at the end, so that’s refreshing.

If Jesus can’t keep these guys locked up… no one can.

“You hit like a vegetarian” – classic. I’m always up for a little Stallone/Arnold action.
