Ethan Hawke Reveals His TOTAL RECALL Cameo Involves 5-Page Monologue

     May 20, 2011

While not much is known about the nature of Ethan Hawke’s cameo in director Len Wiseman’s (Live Free or Die Hard) remake of Total Recall, the actor recently revealed that this won’t be your quick-scene cameo. In speaking with Vulture, Hawke said that he’s shooting his scene next week and he’s doing a 5-page monologue, so it’s safe to assume that his character plays a bit of a crucial role in the flick.

Colin Farrell is set to star in the remake, which will apparently be closer to Phillip K. Dick’s source material than the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger flick. Farrell plays a factory worker who begins to believe he’s a spy for either the nation stat Euromerica or New Shanghai, but he doesn’t know which. Hit the jump for a recap of what we know about the film so far.

Wiseman’s adaptation will definitely be different than the previous incarnation, as it also forgoes the trip to Mars that plays a major role in the 1990 film. Bryan Cranston is set to star as the villain Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai.

Kate Beckinsale has been offered the role of Lori, the main character’s spouse played by Sharon Stone in the first film. Lori has been a highly sought after role, with Diane Krueger and Jessica Biel both vying for the part. Biel is now in talks to play the other lead female role in the film, Melina. Not much else is known about the project, as plot details are being kept under wraps. Total Recall will be released on August 3rd, 2012.

My first thought was that he had been cast as Richter until I read that it is merely a cameo appearance. Nevertheless, it would be good if Colin Farrell and Ethan Hawke have a scene together.

I was hoping former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger would have a cameo in Total Recall and share a scene with Colin Farrell, perhaps telling him to have fun. But now it is highly unlikely due to his focusing solely on personal matters at the present time.

I predicted back on July 29, 2010 when it was announced that Len Wiseman would direct Total Recall that Kate Beckinsale would be cast as Lori. Check it out!

Arnold to make a cameo? That would make the remake much more lame than it already is…now get your a55 to mars….

If they wanted to be “closer to Phillip K. Dick’s source material”, why didn’t they make the lead character a clerk?
An clerk who…wait for it…GOES TO MARS?
    I don’t know about this…

Will the will tri-b00bs be in the remake?

He is either quato (unlikely) or he is going to be the guy who shows up and tells him the whole thing is a delusion and he needs to take a symbolic chill pill to snap out of it. Either way, there is no way this is going rival the original with mega hacks like Len Wiseman and Kurt Wimmer on the job. Seriously, if you are unfamiliar, check out the cv’s on these clowns at imdb; unwatchable garbage as far as the eye can see. If Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer had a love child and that child was profoundly retarded but still somehow managed to grow up and write or direct, it would be Wiseman or Wimmer.
