First Poster for EVIL DEAD Makes a Bold Promise

The first poster for director Fede Alvarez’s remake of Evil Dead has been released, and it makes quite the statement.  It looks to be more of a teaser poster than a full theatrical one, but the most striking image on the one-sheet is the following text: “The Most Terrifying Film You Will Ever Experience.”  That’s one hell of a promise, but judging by the insane red band trailer I’m not exactly ready to write this off as an overconfident statement just yet.

Hit the jump to check out the poster along with a new image from the film, and click here to see what producer Bruce Campbell had to say about the redo.  The film stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth BlackmoreEvil Dead opens on April 12, 2013.

Here’s the synopsis for Evil Dead:

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin.  When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Yeah, so when I saw Cabin in the Woods I realized that it was poking fun at these type of films -and the description of the film is exactly like Cabin- which seem just pointless set pieces of disgusting violence and gore. Now I realize I’m not the demographic for these films -though when I was, these type of slasher films were just as dumb and pointless then, so I never watched them- but gore cannot replace a good script. If the intention is to replace a murky script with endless blood and guts, what’s the point? That’s easy to do. Come up with a well written, clever script that does not rely on hitting every target of the predictable How to Write a Screenplay 101 Wheel, then maybe you’ve got a good picture. Until then, this movie -at least from the trailer I watched, is nothing we’ve not seen before. Even as a remake, I expect more than just gore to drive the film.

i gotta admit that the only justification for the type of gore we get nowadays (which poses under the supposed guise of ‘horror’) is when the end product is actually good which is something that is VERY rare. They keep shoveling this shit which is actually just nothing but gore and people lap it up – I have to say that stuff like Insidious was an actual breath of fresh air (even if it wasn’t entirely). This is an unnecessary remake and one with too many teenagers for my liking – when I was a kid i wanted to watch adults on screen and I still do. Also, no Ash no cash. Not mine anyone. I think it took a decade or two but I have grown up and stick my middle finger at these studios.
