Sony has released a new red band trailer for director Fede Alvarez’s remake of Evil Dead.  It is the most red band trailer I have ever seen.  It is messed up.  I can’t go anywhere near this movie when it opens on April 12, even though I like Jane Levy and this looks like a fun, wicked role for her.  But if you are the type of horror fan who can watch a girl lick the blade of a knife to slice a fork in her tongue, Evil Dead is for you.

Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore co-star.  Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have given the remake their blessing as producers.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Sony created the site DareToShareYourScare.com that lets you record your reaction to share.  The trailer justifies the dare, but it’s another piece of the bold marketing campaign that claims Evil Dead is “the most terrifying film you will ever experience.”

Compare with the first trailer here.

Official synopsis:

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin.  When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

    Wicked.

Ah, you know, why not? Looks better than most remakes.

Looks fucking intense. The thing I loved so much about the original Evil Dead series though was how campy it was, in a good way. This won’t have Raimi’s classic sense of humor. :x

The original wasn’t meant to be funny (though there is some campy fun to be had, unintentionally so). Raimi and co. have always mentioned how they meant it to be 100% totally straight-faced and totally terrifying. I myself am way glad they’re not trying to be “clever” like most modern-day remakes are, poking fun, instead trying to totally evoke the wild splatter-rific tone of the first one.

Fair point about the first one. When I said the original series I really only meant Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, which were most definitely intended to be that way. The former being campy as all hell and the latter being so campy you might just as well call it a comedy. In my opinion the first was a bit of a bore in comparison to it’s successors. Evil Dead 2 managed to retain and perfect that wild, terrifying and splatter-rific tone whilst also being completely hilarious, which again, was what made it so memorable and endearing to me. This might scare me a bit when I see it, I doubt I’m going to think about it very much after that though.

Okay, all 3 were meant to have elements of camp/humor/parody. Sure the first one is the “scariest” of the 3, but it’s clearly meant to be funny too. The fact that Sam Raimi claims they were trying to be 100% serious speaks a lot more to how meta he is than to how serious he was as a horror filmmaker.

Pfft, whatever. It’s not like I wanted to sleep tonight anyways.

Or ever again for that matter

there is a difference between horror and torture porn. i mean I Saw The Devil was intense and gruesome. Hell The Chaser was intense and gruesome. but to to take it to this level it doesn’t make any sense. you’re just trying to make people sick in the stomach instead of enjoying a movie. it doesn’t become entertainment anymore. this is some high school project sh*t.

I almost never watch horror films (mostly because I don’t see the point…they tend to be either laughable or completely illogical), but the trailer wasn’t as scary/horrific as the review made it out to be. One thing I did think was weird, though – why are the evil/possessed characters spewing so many things into other people’s mouths? It happened like four times in the trailer, so who knows how much mouth-to-mouth spewing there will be in the actual film. Odd (and a little gross).

    Is this a PG?

    • stylus59

      Yes

To me that seemed kind of funny if that makes sense. It looks intesne and scary but also has that element where you can just laugh out loud. This looks so wicked.

i agree with you a little. some parts are certainly disturbing, but others looked so over the top that i chuckled a bit

Am I the only one turned on by the last 5 seconds of the trailer?

    Some serious girl-on-girl action there.

    • chanandeler bong

      Whats wrong with you bro?

    • ExoticMilks

I was turned on for most of the trailer. ESPECIALLY the last 5 seconds. :) You’re not alone, hahahahahaha.

absolutely loved the friggin’ trailer. I expect the fans of the original will insist on their initial stance to dispute the remake, but damn, this should be a great flick for anybody wishing great entertainment overall…..

  • Will

Damn, looks intense, how the hell did this get past the MPAA and get an R rating, im not complaining, but its just something that i thought they woudl slap NC17 on immediatly.

    • Sean

      The film isn’t rated yet.

Do you think this will be okay to take my 3 year old niece to? Keep in mind she’s scared of astronauts because they were the ones that wanted to hurt ET.

If that trailer is any indication of how intense this remake will be then well done I reckon, love the originals but don’t want to see them try hard to capture Bruces persona in some new actor, think I squeezed a poo nugget out but hey, that’s why we watch horror movies ain’t it.
