ewan-mcgregor-august-osage-countyFirst up from THR is the report that McGregor has joined August: Osage County as “Bill Fordham, Roberts’ estranged husband and Streep’s son-in-law, a college professor who left his wife for one of his students but wants to be there for his family.”  The picture, based on the play by Tracy Letts, centers on a fractured family and the crisis that reunites them under the roof of their dysfunctional matriarch (Streep).

The cast also includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Abigail Breslin, Sam Shepard, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney and the recently added Misty Upham (Frozen River).

Also from THR comes word that Slater will be the latest addition to Nymphomaniac.  The films are a recounting of the sexual history of 50-year-old self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg).  Slater will star as Joe’s mother in flashbacks to her childhood.  The article also sheds light on Skarsgard’s character, as an old bachelor who finds Joe lying beaten in an alley one winter night.  He takes her home to care for her, where she begins to recount her tale over eight chapters.  One of them appears to include LaBeouf in an unsimulated sex scene.

Here’s what Slater had to say about working with Von Trier:

“Lars is a complete gentleman. It’s great to be on a set with someone who has such a loyal and talented team.  The majority of his crew are people he has worked with over the past twenty years. They love him and I understand why. It’s lovely as an actor to get opportunities a few times in your career to work on a truly special project with a director and leader who really understands his material and is able to convey what he wants so concisely.”

Nymphomaniac is currently shooting in Germany outside Cologne.
