Opening this Wednesday, in limited release, is director Richard Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles. Based in real theatrical history, the film is a coming-of-age story about a teenage actor (Zac Efron) who lucks into a role in Julius Caesar as it’s being re-imagined by a brilliant, impetuous young director named Orson Welles (Christian McKay) at his newly-founded Mercury Theater in NYC, 1937. Claire Danes co-stars as Sonja Jones, the unapologetically ambitious assistant to Welles who Zac tries to go after.
While the film premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, it took awhile for someone to purchase it for domestic distribution. While a delay might be a sign of a problem, I thought Me and Orson Welles was great and definitely recommend checking it out. So to help promote the film, I recently sat down with Zac Efron and Richard Linklater and they talked about why it took awhile for the film to get released, Orson Welles, making the film, and Zac addresses the Death Note manga rumors. Get the fuck over yourselves. I am, in no way, a fan of High School Musical, and have never even watched the damn movies, but to belittle an actor based on his past movies, it’s ridiculous. Zac Efron has proven to be a well-rounded actor, especially with this recent movie. For him to portray Light Yagami in Death Note would be a great thing as far as accuracy is concerned.
But I know the argument that “Zac Efron fangirls would flood the theaters opening day, that haven’t even heard of Death Note!!” Chill the fuck out. So, the series gets, possibly, a few new fans because of him, so what?

Well, I have good reasons why I think that Zac Efron shouldn’t play light.
1. He doesn’t look like him. At all.
2. Well… I don’t think he can do light’ evil laugh.
3. Light is Japanese. Shouldn’t Japanese ppl play the role of Japanese person?
Well, I am against the remake, because by watching the other remakes Hollywood made, you could tell that they simply ruined the original story. And as a fan, I don’t want death note getting ruined.

If Zac Efron can pull of the character and the laugh, i’d say give it a shot. He may have played in Disney movies and what not but this may take a change in his carrier. He looks like Light Yagami that’s for sure. Pleasepleaseplease, MAKE IT YOUR TOP PRIORITY TO GET THIS RIGHT. Take a goddamn potato chip and eat it. GAH, I hope the L has plenty of makeup and looks sexy and mischievous. HE NEEDS THE POINTY ANIME-LOOKING HAIR TOO. PLEASE, MAKE ALL THE CHARACTERS LOOK BELIEVABLE.
