As the screenwriter of “Twilight”, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”, and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”, Melissa Rosenberg has the difficult task of trying to bring Stephenie Meyer’s insanely popular book series to the screen. So while writing any movie is difficult, writing one that has so many passionate and knowledgeable fans is taking it another level. Luckily for her, most of the “Twilight” fans I’ve spoken with really enjoyed the first movie and are anxiously awaiting the second and third installments.
So when I got an opportunity to sit down with Melissa backstage at this year’s Comic-Con, I tried my best to ask her all the questions a “Twilight” fan would want to know like has the increased budget changed the way she writes, or what did she have to edit out of books two and three to make them into movies. It’s an extended interview and we talked about a lot of subjects. Take a look after the jump:
As I always do, here’s what we talked about:
Melissa Rosenberg
- What has Comic-Con 2009 been like for her
- Has she lost anonymity amongst the Twilight fans
- Has she seen all the Twilight fans camped outside the theater and Hall H
- Is it a daunting process writing something that so many people analyze so closely
- Was there any scene in either the second or third book/movie that she was sad she’d have to cut for time
- Did the increased budget change the way she wrote the movies
- Was there any difference in writing the movies with three different directors
- Has she started to have any conversations about adapting the 4th book into a movie
