Filming on the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s 2010 all-star action movie The Expendables is set to begin in September, and now rumors are starting to swirl about what action heavyweights will be along for the ride this time around. Shooting will be taking place in Bulgaria, and the CEO of Bulgaria-based NU Boyana studios David Varod recently dropped some huge names when listing the cast for The Expendables 2 to Novinite: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis.

We expected Stallone, Statham, Lundgren and Rourke to return, but this is the first time we’ve heard of Travolta, Norris and Vam Damme’s involvement (Stallone has been wanting Schwarzenegger and Willis to return for a while). However, just because Varod listed them off doesn’t mean all of these actors mentioned are definitely in the film. Hit the jump for more.

expendables-2-promo-poster-imageWhile it would certainly be cool to see all of these guys together in the same movie, this casting rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. Some of the actors may simply be on a wishlist or “in talks,” and even if they do appear it could be in a cameo-type role similar to Schwarzenegger and Willis’ involvement in the first film. Nevertheless, if Stallone has assembled all those mentioned, The Expendables 2 could prove to be the testosterone-fueled equivalent of New Year’s Eve. Simon West (Con Air) is directing, with the film slated for August 17th, 2012.

I didn’t really like the first movie, but I thought Chuck Norris should have been in it. This is like the non super hero Avengers.

one of those things just doesn’t belong there.

Actually Van Damme has been a certainty for a while now.

The first one was awesome, the best action movie in years.

I wish Schwarzenegger, Willis, Van Damme and Chuck Norris will all be together in the sequel along with Stallone, that would be a history moment.

I think they should be in the movie because times have changed, they are not longer the big stars of the film industry, action has disappeared and has been replaced by those Twilight movies and good looking guys who can’t act and think they can be the next action hero star.

Imagine Shia LeBeouf being John McCane Jr. from Die Hard 5 where he does his Transformers screaming as he is running away from a exploding car, oh please, Willis wouldn’t do that because he would do his classic line as he shoots a flying helicopter and it
    explodes.

It is time for the real hard men of the 80′s to show the youngsters how it is done in action style.

As long as they ditch Statham. I never heard of him before seeing the Expendables and he was a total waste of much needed screentime for the rest of the cast. I know I’m a “old school” 90′s action movie fan and they need a token “current guy” in the Expendables for the international audience, but I wish they’d replace him.

This film needs some Michael Dudikoff, Cynthia Rothrock, and Scott Adkins to satisfy the hardcores.

John Travolta needs to go away. Tarantino revived his career with Pulp Fiction, but what has he done since then? Of quality I mean. Statham must be in this, he is the man. But I’m very sad to see that Sly will not be directing. Nobody can direct action like Stallone, no one.

I really don’t understand why Travolta would even be considered for it. The ONE person they’re missing is without a doubt WESLEY SNIPES. Too bad he’s doing time for tax evasion, oh well.

First film was a complete directorial mess, with an even messier story. Simon West should kick start part 2 into gear. I agree with what’s been said: Quit the hype because action stars from the 80s will be faces in the crowd. They should get Michael Dudikoff as well, still in great shape for his age. And Jeff Speakman.

Alright, I think some really silly things posted here have to be addressed. First, if you don’t know who Jason Statham (Transporter trilogy, The Italian Job, Snatch, Crank, The Mechanic) is then you probably aren’t the intended audience in the first place. As for Travolta not belonging I would think Broken Arrow, Face/Off, Swordfish, From Paris With Love, The General’s Daughter, Taking of Pelham 123, qualifies him. Most importantly anyone who thinks he hasn’t done anything of quality since Pulp Fiction needs to check their head and recall Get Shorty, A Civil Action, White Man’s Burden, Phenomenom, Primary Colors, and the fact that he’s playing John Gotti in an upcoming biopic along with some of the other aforementioned flicks are solid arguments against such shortsighted statement. Even Hairspray (not really my cop of tea) garnered him rave reviews. I suspect there are some very young and cynical forum posters here with short term memories.

Btw, somebody get Michael Biehn and Chow Yun Fat in this thing NOW!

when will the jackie chan expendables come out???!!!???!!!

Three names that need to be in it : Kurt Russell, Kurt Russell, Kurt Russell.

    kurt russell,” enough said. “

I hope in the sequel, there will be more amazing fight scenes.

It would be good if they include Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, Michael Jai White, Kurt Angle and Bill Goldberg.

Who hasn’t heard of Jason Statham. What did you do when it comes to movies, grow up under a rock?
