Nu Image has released a promo image and synopsis for The Expendables 2. As you can see, the image is basically the logo from the first film except with fewer guns and it turns out the skull was hiding the number “2″ in its cranial cavity. Oh, skull. You’re so crafty.
Hit the jump for the synopsis that sounds a lot like the plot of the first movie. The Expendables is currently set to open on August 17, 2012. [Update: StalloneZone spoke with Stallone’s people and learned that the synopsis is incorrect and that the real storyline will be forthcoming. I imagine it will be somewhere along the lines of “tough guys kill lots of people.”
Here’s the synopsis Nu Image provides for The Expendables 2:
The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.
Except for the addition of brutally murdering Mickey Rourke, isn’t this the plot of the first movie? A young woman tries to bring down a ruthless dictator, she’s captured, and the Expendables have to save the day by killing a bunch of folks in a rote and unexciting manner except for Terry Crews wielding a chaingun. I’m also guessing that Stallone’s desire to build Bruce Willis’ character into a “super-villain” didn’t pan out. In all fairness, Willis has decided that his time would be better spent shooting a movie with 50 Cent.

The Expendables was one of the best films of 2010. It was f*****g epic. The fights between Jet Li/Dolph Lundgren, Sylvester Stallone/Steve Austin, Randy Couture/Steve Austin as well as Jason Statham/Jet Li/Gary Daniels knocked everyone on their ass and were so amazing and action-packed, audiences all over the world were left breathless.
It would have been good to include Wesley Snipes in the sequel to fight Jason Statham so they could finally have given us the fight that they unfairly denied us in Chaos (2005). Unfortunately Wesley Snipes is in prison until 2013, a full year after this film is released.
I hope in the sequel, there will be more amazing fight scenes. It would be good if they include Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Kurt Angle and Michael Jai White.
They should add Dwayne Johnson to the cast.
Nah, he’s still relevant.
I Agree! Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson kicks ass!
“a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement”
It sounds like the Expendables are going to Libya to battle Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s forces.
I don’t think the stakes were quite as high in the first one. I don’t remember Barney and crew trying to save “humanity.”
This sounds like a real piece of trash… Kind of like the first movie.
Totally…just 80′s nostalgic freaks think expendables is a great “action” movie…what I regret the most of expendables is the lack of chemistry of the group…it is supposed that they r brothers in arms ffs and they r just a bunch of action stars trying to get along…
Why is Matt the only one who reports on Sly news, and tears him apart each time!? Why cant he be the least bit excited?! No one is expecting Oscar Gold here people. We are expecting a fun action adventure! Quit expecting more. Its just not going to happen. I am fine with my expectations, I go in, expecting to see a debacle of action, and thats what I get. “In all fairness, Willis has decided that his time would be better spent shooting a movie with 50 Cent.” In all fairness, your a Clown Shoe Matt. You try making a film with all these action stars at the same time and get all their schedules to match up. Good luck with all that. You really kill me how much you always hate on Sly Matt. Try saying somethign positive ONE time.
Are you a troll? Is it so bad to expect decent acting, characters, plot and some originality from an action movie? Because i hate to break it to you Expendables did not have any of the aforementioned. I respect your right to like the movie, how about you respect other peoples right not to like it.

Holy S, Collider, will you please stop adding your editorial comments on these projects?! Your goddam snarky, hipster, condescending remarks are completely unprofessional, and make you sound like idiots. Are you news or not?
Spoiler alert there much Goldberg you clown?
SPOILERS
I’d like to point out that Nu Image also had a press release about Rambo taking on a werewolf two years ago. These things aren’t always accurate.
But Goldberg can’t write for diddly. Can someone else handle the TE2 news please?
or all news
I couldn’t finish the first movie. It seemed it was more of ‘hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we all made a movie together? Oh the plot? That’s not important, we’ll just shoot some guns and blow shit up.’
You mean just like all the other 80s action movies? I swear all the people complaining about the first should just stick to Harry Potter.
Seriously, lets not have Matt as a writer, he just hates all day long. Stallone is an entertainer the same as any actor. They all have their specialties. Stallone knows his, and knows it well. Why are people expecting an Oscar worthy script in these movies? Its rediculous! Its just supposed to be a fun romp adventure.
I LOVED The Expendables! cait wait for the sequel
It look’s like everyone here is agreed that i am indeed, a cunt.
seems that way
you can redeem yourself by being less biased and in your articles
I am an 80′s action junky, having grown up in the greatest decade for action. Die Hard and Commando are still up there at the top of my list of greatest achievements of the human race.
I was pretty disappointed with The Expendables as it failed miserably to capture the corny OTT nature of this decade. IT TOOK ITSELF SERIOUSLY FFS!!! Too much Jason Statham for my liking, but I suppose you need something for the kiddies. He is a charlatan in the action world. He has no martial arts abilities nor is he built like a poster boy for steroid abuse. I can’t remember a single cool line ever being uttered by his cockney mouth. He’s bald, that’s all he has going for him. Dolph was criminally unter utilized in the last movie too.
Do they not even have the imagination to change ‘Dictator’ for ‘Drug Baron’? Same plot effectively, but at least it looks like you tried.
Gerry,
i see where you’re coming from, but weren’t a large number of 80′s action flicks funny for the exact fact that they took themselves so dead seriously as well (Commando?), in all their cheesy over-the-top glory?
I think Sly pulled off a good balance between the serious and the more light-hearted, self-aware stuff in his film, but the task of recapturing that true 80′s feel is probably an impossible one. You can’t just replicate Die Hard or Predator or whatever, all these films are a product of their times and have that zeitgeist written into their very genetic code. Even if somebody managed to pull off a perfectly authentic throwback flick that has every single element we love about these films in it, it probably just wouldn’t be the same…
If you really wanna make the ultimate testosterone ridden dude flick ya gotta have a truly odd bad guy….. Perfect example, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, or even Steve Buschemi, or Joe Peschi. (All known for being insane). Curt Douglas would be a good addition, as well as Bill Goldberg. It would be great to see other 1980′s bad asses like Van Damme Chuck Norris, or even Mel Gibson. Call it nostalgia for growing up in the 80′s. If it wasn’t for all the egos it would work.
I hope in the sequel, there will be more amazing fight scenes.
It would be good if they include Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, Michael Jai White, Kurt Angle and Bill Goldberg.
