FANTASTIC FOUR’s Doctor Doom Shortlist Down to Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne, Toby Kebbell, and Domhnall Gleeson

     March 11, 2014

Remember when there was a rumor that The Fantastic Four’s version of Doctor Doom (aka Victor von Doom) might be a woman?  Well, if a new casting shortlist is to be believed, it looks like that rumor doesn’t hold water.  The villainous role has apparently been narrowed down to these four blokes: Sam Riley (On the Road), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans), or Domhnall Gleeson (About Time).  Whoever ends up with the part, it’s going to be a 30-something actor from the U.K. who goes up against Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell in the title roles.  Hit the jump for more.

doctor-doomAs The Wrap reports, Riley, Redmayne, Kebbell, and Gleeson are (fittingly) the final four for the role of The Fantastic Four foe of Doctor Doom.  Jack Huston was also reported as being in the mix weeks ago, but his involvement in the picture is unclear at this point.  Riley’s next big film is that of Disney’s Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie in the title role.  Redmayne has a major feature of his own on the books with the Wachowski siblings’ Jupiter Ascending coming out this summer.  Not to be left out, Kebbell has the 20th Century Fox sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes due out this July, and Legendary’s Warcraft adaptation coming in 2016.  Finally, Gleeson stars in Jolie’s directorial effort later this year in the biopic drama, Unbroken.  It’s easy to see why these four have made it to the final four for the coveted role as they’re clearly trending upwards on the Hollywood radar.

Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four opens June 19, 2015.

They got lame actors for the Heroes now this list for the villains?..This Movie is going to suck!!!
Someone make a Superhero movie with Josh Holloway!!!!!

    • GrimReaper07

The actors for the heroes are all fantastic. Young? That’s a completely different thing.

      • X-Fan

It’s not that any of them are bad actors, it’s just that none of them really make any sense at all for Doom.

      • GrimReaper07

I was just talking about the guys who play the FF, not these guys that are up for Doom. I don’t know any of them and yeah, none of them look like could pull off intimidating very well.

    • Common Sense

NO! No superhero movies with Josh Holloway! He is the new Nathan Fillion, an extremely overrated actor that nerds are in love with for some reason. He’s just a discount Harrison Ford. Please name one role besides Lost, that he is good in.

  • tarek

Sam Riley or Eddie Redmayne are good choices. The other two, not so much.

  • Flavio Hilario

The way things are going, it seems will be a straight-to-DVD movie :((

  • Johnson

This selection is actually very good – all of these are good and they seem to fit the role, although they’ll have to pull off one hell of a role. Now if only they could recast Michael B. Jordan…

    • pk

i rather they recast miles teller and the guy playing the thing

  • SomeGuy

I view Doctor Doom as a high caliber villain like Magneto and none of these actors are on the same level as Ian McKellen. Though, I maybe see Sam Riley as an all right choice.

    • Strong Enough

Eddie is a really good actor

  • eternalozzie

ooooh … an evil Redmayne would be cool.

  • Theodore Trout

Doom, Reed and Ben all are the same age.

  • 80sRobot

Redmayne is the best of this bunch.

  • Person

This is gonna be a disaster.

  • The Flobbit

Just get Eddie Redmayne. The man is a monster of an actor!

  • Ramzi Kibbi

Why not get Eva Green :(??? She would be awesome as the female Dr.Doom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Toma

Domhnall Gleeson is getting some limelight recently. Not sure how much he’s the right choice for the role but I like him.

  • Jack le Critic

Is this a Paul W.S Anderson film?

  • Cog

What Lady Gaga was busy..She would be the perfect Dr. Doom for this turd of a movie.

  • cruzzercruz

Everything about this film just seems off.

  • The Destroyer

Sigh, here we go. These actors, both the actors playing the heros, and the actors that are up for Doctor Doom, are not that young! They are all in their late 20′s, early thirties, the exact same ages that Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, and Ioan Gruffud were when they filmed the first movie. You all are only complaining about them, because you have seen them play teenagers in the past. Well, they are not playing teenagers in this movie. Jordan, Mara, and Bell are three of the best up and coming stars, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie with Teller. Riley and Redmayne are also to very good actors, although I think Jack Huston would be perfect for the part.

  • Abed

Jack Huston would be amazing for Doctor Doom. He can pull off wearing a mask and having a cruel, sadistic nature. Best actor on Boardwalk Empire.

God, I’ll be really pissed if Redmayne or Gleeson get into this. I’m fan of these guys and I don’t want to see them in this trainwreck

I don’t know why people don’t just wait till the trailer. Then you can talk shit but just like CRONICLE you won’t know till you watch it. Josh Trank has only done one film and it was good he knows how to make Science Fiction. As far as casting goes I think people should just get use to it because nobody ever thought Hugh Jackman would be a good Wolverine. Everybody didn’t want Wesley Snipes as Blade or Cris Evans as Captin America and the list goes on.
