A new Fantastic Four international trailer has gone online, and it contains some flashes of fresh footage.   Although the trailer is largely similar to the most recent U.S. one, there are some flashes of the emotional side of the story, which is Reed Richards’ (Miles Teller) desire to “fix his friends”. There will probably be another trailer in about a month or so that delves deep into the plot, but at this point, I think they’ve struck the right balance with teasing out the story but not giving away too much.

Meanwhile, director Josh Trank is trying to do a bit of damage control. His career recently took a hit when he left the second Star Wars spinoff because word was he couldn’t hack it on the set of Fantastic Four. Now word has leaked that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn has been hired to do reshoots last month, and that Fox scrapped the 3D release to put their resources into new filming rather than the conversion process. That second part is clearly ridiculous (at most, the studio wouldn’t release it domestically in 3D, but 3D overseas is a must for international revenue), but the first part also doesn’t hold up. Actor Tim Blake Nelson recently told ComingSoon:

"...they’re written by Simon Kinberg and they’re being directed by Josh, and these are two very strong-willed, opinionated people, so I can’t imagine there’s gonna be some wild departure from what they had in mind when they first set out to collaborate," Nelson said about the possibility that the reshoots were being done to make the movie more blockbuster sized. "I think it’s probably going to be an effort to underscore what the movie is all about. And Josh is the maker of 'Chronicle'! This guy is not afraid to take his own perspective on what it is to be a young, eccentric person in a normalizing world and explore that, and that’s what 'Fantastic Four' is all about, just like 'Chronicle' was."
