FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Set for March 6, 2015 Release Date; THE WOLVERINE, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and More Going 3D

     December 8, 2012

If all goes according to plan, 2015 will be one ridiculous year for movies.  Currently, The Avengers 2, Justice League, Ant-Man, Star Wars: Episode VII, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 are all tentatively slated for 2015 release dates.  Now Fox is throwing one more highly anticipated title into the pile, as their Fantastic Four reboot now has a March 6, 2015 release date.  Titled The Fantastic Four, the film has Chronicle director Josh Trank at the helm and Jeremy Slater penning the screenplay.  Plot details are practically non-existent at the moment, but with two promising gents creatively spearheading the project, there’s certainly hope for a fun take on the comic book property that will help us all put Tim Story‘s overly cheesy films out of our memory for good.

Additionally, Fox has announced that a number of their upcoming films will be post-converted to 3D.  Hit the jump for more.

x-men-days-of-future-pastThe folks over at Exhibitor Relations Tweeted that Fox’s The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters will all be released in 3D.  There’s no mention of Fantastic Four being 3D, but I imagine it will be presented in three-dimensions as well when all is said and done.  Seeing as how production on The Wolverine and Percy Jackson has already wrapped, we know that those two will be post-converted.  There’s no word on whether the other two will be shot in 3D or post-converted, but Ian McKellen recently speculated that director Bryan Singer might shoot the X-Men sequel in 3D and at 48 frames-per-second.

There has been no firm word from anyone else that Singer might go that route, and McKellen only just entered negotiations to join the project so he’s not exactly an expert on all things Days of Future Past.  That said, Singer recently Tweeted quite a bit on a pre-production trip to New Zealand where he hung out with The Hobbit director/48 fps cheerleader Peter Jackson, so it’s certainly possible that he might be going the High Frame Rate route.  It’s also possible that he was just meeting with the people at Jackson’s visual effects studio Weta for the film, so let’s hold off on the instant backlash until we have more information.

Here’s a rundown of the release dates for Fox’s upcoming films:

i know they won’t, but they should use Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm again…he was awesome, the only good thing (no pun intended) about the F4 films

you don’t have to listen to me, Stan lee’s favorite interpretation of ANY of his marvel characters by an actor was Chiklis’ turn as Grimm… THAT’S GOTTA MEAN SOMETHING, RIGHT??

  • Dan

    Mr. Fantastic – Matt Smith
    Invisible Woman – Carey Mulligan
    Human Torch – Dave Franco
The Thing – Jeffery Dean Morgan

    • Nerdgasm

I’m Sorry this is the worst cast wish list i’ve ever seen for any movie. None of these actors fit the characters … i mean younger would be fine and you could go the whole Ultimate Route but they just dont fit at all.

Mr. Fantastic : (Normal Universe.) Jack Davenport – (Ultimate) Mathew Goode
Dr. Doom: (Normal Universe) Nathanial Parker – (Ultimate) Rufus Sewell
Invisible Woman: (Normal Universe) Diane Kruger – (Ultimate) Sienna Miller
Human Torch: (Normal Uniserve) Alexander Skarsgard (Ultimate) Garret Hedlund
Thing (Normal Universe.) Michael Chicklis (Ultimate) let my soul not rot – Vin Disiel.

Dave Franco is actually a great choice if were going with a young Fantastic Four. And Jeffery Dean Morgan seems like a pretty good Thing Choice as well. Other choices I don’t like though. Like Carrey Mulligan is a great actress, but not for Invisible Woman.

chiklis!! was great before…im sure he will be again

    • Dan

@Nergasm. It’s work in progress. I like to have my say before Hollywood has its way. I wanted to go with actors who are underated. Matt Smith because he comes off as intelligent and shows great leadership on Dr. Who. Carey Mulligan because I think she is a fantastic (no pun intended) actress and I loved her in Drive and Shame and I think she has strong potential for this role. I wanted to choose someone attractive. Not too attractive, but someone cute. Dave Franco because I wanted to choose an actor who could pull off the little brother aspect of the character I know he can be a wise ass. Plus this movie will be coming out in 3 years so they’ll age. Jeffery Dean Morgan because first off he has the voice, the acting chops, and he’s familiar with being apart of a superhero team. Running mates: Mr. Fantastic, Adrien Brody and Benedict Cumberbatch. Invisible Woman, Michelle Williams. Human Torch, Alex Pettyfer and Chris Pine. The Thing, Karl Urban and Patrick Warburton. I like your cast a lot (Except for The Thing, no offense). Kudos on The Human Torch and the Invisible Woman!

You must be smoking crack. Them studios marketing folks are rolling in their seat.

If these guys are smart, they will do an adaptation of the Ultimate Fantastic Four. That way they don’t have to stick to any sort of continuity, they can just do their own thing. That way they can get all younger actors ( the Ultimate characters are around 20), The story and character development in Ultimate FF is amazing and they would be smart to steal a few pages from it.

2015 is shaping up to be a big money making year for movie. Justice League, The Avengers 2, Ant-Man, Star Wars Episode 7, Mocking Jay Part 2, Fantastic Four, and most likely Avatar 2. My predictions for those is if Star Wars gets a good cast/looks good from the trailers(basically not like the prequels) then it will rake in the most money. Followed by either Avenger 2 or Avatar 2. Justice League would take third place over Mocking Jay Part 2 I’m predicting.

If Jesse Eisenberg was older, he would be a perfect Reed Richards. For Invisible Woman there’s lots of great actresses that can pull it off. Elizabeth Banks seems like a great choice. Charlize Theron is another possible candidate. Banks seems like someone who can pull if the role, and isn’t to famous. Jeffery Dean Morgan really seems like a good choice as well, his voice seems perfect, and he can act and do the action. For Human torch there’s a lot of names I can think of as well. Someone said Dave Franco and I think that could definitely work. He’s 27 years old didn’t no that, I guess they made him look younger for 21 Jump Street. Though Chris Pine seems like a great choice as well. I know he played Hulk so some may not like this but Edward Norton can make a good Mr.Fantastic. It won’t happen though, not after the fiasco he had with Hulk. Simon Baker could also play Mr.Fantastic, but he is the perfect Ant-Man so I hope he’s Ant-Man instead.

    Mr. Fantastic – Jack Davenport
Invisible Woman – Alice Eve or Elizabeth Banks
Human Torch – Dave Franco or Hunter Parrish
    The Thing – ???

  • tarek

    Best cast:

    Mr. Fantastic – Robert Pattinson
    Invisible Woman – Kristen Stewart
    Human Torch –Billy Burke
    The Thing – Taylor Lautner

    • jimmyevil

Oh man, this made me laugh way too hard for what it is. I think it’s the “best cast” at the top. You made my day, buddy!

      • TwoCentsTooMuch

        I’d make one small change:

        The Thing – Kristen Stewart

  • Frank Zubek

I’m sorry but I think the cast, crew and especially Tim Story did a terrific job with what they had to work with budget wise. Top marks from my little corner of the world. Maybe it was just bad timing for the film but I enjoyed it tremendously.

    • ScaredForMovies

I would’ve liked it if I was an eight year old kid. Maybe. I do agree that the cast was alright, other than Jessica Alba. But as it stands it was way too cheesy in a bad way. They screwed up on Dr. Doom. Did the typical we have to use our powers together to beat the bad guy at the end routine. Then came the sequel with a Spider-Man 3 stretchy dance club sequence. Ruined the Silver Surfer’s debut. This time the Human Torch absorbs the others powers to defeat Doom, and finally they turned Galactus into a universal storm cloud. This franchise, like Daredevil, is in dire need of a reboot.

Ok, lets do a political dream cast for the F4:
The invisible Woman-Tusli Gabbard(damn she hot as f***!)
    The Human Torch-Marko Rubio
    The Thing-Chris Christie

Top that my fellow cinema geeks!

    Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards- Bruce Greenwood
    Sue Richards- Laura Linney
Thing- Keep Chicklis, or use (duh!) The Rock.
    Human Torch- Jake Busey

    Nuff Said.

  • Jordan

I like Adrien Brody as Mr. Fantastic but how about Patrick Dempsey? He was considered for this role as well as for Dr. Strange a while back. A good actor as well. Invisible Woman has to have the sex appeal but the brains too. Rachel Weisz could be a good choice. I like Alice Eve too. Human Torch should be young and cocky. Liam Hemsworth/Chace Crawford could be good choices. Chiklis could be worthy of a return. Or CGI the Thing like they are talking about. Mcahon wasn’t that bad as Doom but they could do better. Remember he is the evil equal to M. Fantastic.

    Patrick Dempsey/Kyle Chandler/ Adrien Brody-Mr. Fantastic
    Rachel Weisz/Alice Eve/Kristen Bell-Invisible Woman
    Liam Hemsworth/Chace Crawford/Keir Gilchrist
    Chiklis/CGI-The Thing
    Jean Dujardin/Ken Branagh/Joel Edgerton-Dr. Doom

  • Mr W

The studio has no confidence: March release. Orrrrrrrrrrrrr trying to break records – but unlikely.

    • Matt C

What do you mean, no confidence? March is now a ‘hot’ month for big releases, as “300″, “The Lorax”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Hunger Games” made summer-sized coin in that month. Fox wants to avoid the competition in the summertime by releasing in March 2015 rather than June or July.
