Our first look at the new FX limited series Fargo comes by way of this thirty-second teaser trailer.  It features a look at Billy Bob Thornton’s character in the frozen North, The Ames Brothers’ “It Only Hurts for a Little While” and hints of the dark humor that’s sure to come.  It also comes with the tagline: “This April, Lorne Malvo has a few things to clear up.”

Executive produced by Joel and Ethan Coen, the 10-episode show is a reimagining of the classic Coen brothers film and also stars Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks, Oliver Platt, Kate Walsh, Glenn Howerton, Joey King, Tom Musgrave, Peter Breitmayer, Josh Close, Russell Harvard, Adam Goldberg, and Allison Tolman.  Hit the jump to watch.

Here’s the first teaser for Fargo (with a hat tip to EW for the heads up):

Synopsis:

An original adaptation of the Academy Award®-winning feature film, Fargo features an all-new “true crime” story and follows a new case and new characters, all entrenched in the trademark humor, murder and “Minnesota nice” that made the film an enduring classic. Oscar® winner Billy Bob Thornton stars as “Lorne Malvo,” a rootless, manipulative man who meets and forever changes the life of small town insurance salesman “Lester Nygaard,” played by BAFTA Award® winner and Emmy®-nominated Martin Freeman. Colin Hanks plays Duluth Police Deputy “Gus Grimly,” a single dad who must choose between his own personal safety and his duty as a policeman when he comes face-to-face with a killer. Allison Tolman also stars as “Molly Solverson,” an ambitious Bemidji deputy.

Rounding out Fargo’s colorful cast of recurring characters will be Emmy winner Bob Odenkirk as “Deputy Bill Oswalt,” Golden Globe™ and Emmy-nominated Oliver Platt as “Stavros Milos,” Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Kate Walsh as “Gina Hess,” Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as “Don Chumph,” Joey King as “Greta Grimly,” Peter Breitmayer as “Lieutenant Schmidt,” Tom Musgrave as “Bo Munk,” Josh Close as “Chazz Nygaard,” Russell Harvard as “Mr. Wrench” and Adam Goldberg as “Mr. Numbers.”

A 10-episode limited series, Fargo is written by Noah Hawley. Emmy Award-winning director Adam Bernstein directed the premiere hour. Hawley, Warren Littlefield, Joel & Ethan Coen and Geyer Kosinski serve as executive producers. Fargo is produced by FX Productions and MGM Television.

    “An original series.”

That’s some fine reporting there, Lou.

And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper.

As somebody who has lived in Fargo for 4 years, and the rest of my life, spent even more north in a little town in Minnesota, the realism of this show is very disappointing.

You do not scrape snow off of your windshield, you scrape ice off of your windshield. All he had to do to clear his windshield is brush it off with his hand, or better yet, wipe it off with his wipers. That snow just fell off leaving no scratches across any ice on the windshield.

God Damn Californiy basterds pretending they know what its like to live like I live and giving the rest of the viewing public an inaccurate depiction of my way of life. Is this how minorities feel all the time?

I think this will clear up any issues you have with the realism of this show…

Really dude? I live where it snows and I routinely use my ice scraper to brush the snow off because I don’t want my hands to be freezing. Also, like the Dude said, who the hell cares?

I was thinking the same thing. He’s scraping soft snow off the windshield? Uhh that’s when you brush it off. And like you said, if the wipers aren’t frozen, just use those. That’s who cares motherfuckers. Go back to watching your shitty cartoons.

everyone’s anger at the windshield is funny to me. i’ve lived in Minnesota my entire life, currently living in Minneapolis (where we’re getting butt fucked by mother nature right now), and i couldn’t be more excited about this show. do i care if he’s “scraping” off snow? fuck no. but i’ll admit one of the things i loved about the movie was its portrayal of Minnesota life, since it was shot here in MN. this probably wasn’t shot here, but if it portrays life even remotely like how i know it, i’ll be pleased

OK snow scrappers. Maybe the car was scrapped earlier from a trip out and all the snow he’s taking off the windshield is fresh snow, hmmm…..??
