How does a Gina Carano/Dwayne Johnson team-up sound? After kicking much ass earlier this year in Steven Soderbergh’s actioner Haywire, MMA athlete Gina Carano is now poised to join the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise.  Though plot details are under wraps, Carano will apparently star in Fast 6 as a member of Johnson’s team.  As you’ll recall, “The Rock” played a toughened Diplomatic Security Service agent in director Justin Lin’s smash hit Fast Five.  Hit the jump for more.

Gina-Carano-fast-6Lin is returning to direct the sixth installment of the rejuvenated franchise, which is moving the action to the UK.  Johnson previously revealed that Fast 6 and Fast 7 will be shot separately in the UK and Germany, so it appears Vin Diesel and Co. are headed across the pond.  I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Fast Five, and I’m looking forward to seeing the whole cast reassemble for some UK action.  As we recently reported, Jason Statham turned down a role in the pic so we’ll likely be seeing at least one more big casting announcement soon (unless they changed the sex of the character and gave it to Carano).

I thought Carano’s acting was sufficient in Haywire, and I think she’ll make a welcomed addition to the Fast and Furious team.  Per Heat Vision, she’ll be alongside Johnson for most of the film as one of his agents so it’ll be fun to see her taking names on the other side of the law.  She nabbed the lead in John Stockwell’s thriller In the Blood after the success of Haywire, but she won’t shoot that film until she wraps Fast 6.  Production on Lin’s Fast Five follow-up is set to begin soon, with a release date of May 24th, 2013 staked out.

  1. With this addition, Fast 6 is my most anticipated film for next year. Good Lord, Carano and The People’s Champ in the same movie?

    Are tickets on sale yet?

  2. Just watched Haywire last night. Gotta admit, her acting was pretty terrible..horrible adr as well. With Carano & Johnson, you need less dialogue, more ass kicking.

  3. By far this is going to be one of the most anticipated film of next year with Carano and Johnson working together.

I hope they can film this movie with IMAX cameras.

  4. Haywire was pretty great. having a motionless camera pulled back, shooting fantastic fight choreography, without shaky cam really was refreshing. She should stay far away from FF though, what an awful franchise.

  5. Haywire was a truly awful film. The girl can fight but that is all. Almost every scene felt horribly forced and for most of them she had this strange smirk on her face. I couldn’t wait for the credits to roll up tbh.
