The first trailer for the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious, has arrived from Universal Pictures. The movie finds Vin Diesel's Dom and his crew facing off against Jason Statham's returning villain and Charlize Theron as a brand new adversary, with director F. Gary Gray orchestrating all the bombast.

First of all, if you thought that parachuting cars out of a plane or leaping through three high rises in a row in Abu Dhabi was as insane as the franchise could go, you have not been paying attention. The new trailer shows an incredible amount of new car stunts, as well as a submarine getting in on the action. Tanks! Subs! A prison riot! The Rock telling Jason Statham that he will beat him like a Cherokee drum!

At the heart of this franchise, though, is one thing that is so oft repeated in the movies and by the cast themselves: family. In The Fate of the Furious, that is all called into question as Dom is seduced to the dark side. But why? Dom's turn from fam to outlaw is an interesting new dynamic, and the movie looks like it will be keeping the emotional stakes high while still remaining committed to blowing shit up. Gorgeous cars abound, as do explosions and many physics-defying acts of vehicular wizardry. It is everything we could hope for.

Watch the first Fate of the Furious trailer below. The film also stars Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, and Helen Mirren. The Fate of the Furious opens in theaters on April 14, 2017.

Here's the official synopsis for The Fate of the Furious:

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life.  But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

For The Fate of the Furious, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell.  In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar® winner Helen Mirren.  The film is directed by F.
