One of the great attributes of the Fast & Furious franchise is that the films do, in fact, feel like video games. When Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (the late Paul Walker), and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) are behind the wheel and in the fast lane, its all pure adrenaline and giddy disbelief. So, the fact that Universal will premiere Fast & Furious – Supercharged, a thrilling ride set to open at Universal Studios Hollywood this summer, makes perfect sense. To tease the opening of the 3D-enhanced attraction, Universal has released a sneak peek of the “technologically advanced, epic” ride, showing behind-the-scenes footage of Diesel, Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson working on scenes to be played in conjunction with the ride. As one might expect, the footage looks appealingly volatile.
The announcement of the ride is the latest in the line of promotional videos, images, and events leading up to the release of James Wan’s intensely anticipated Furious 7. The latest installment in the franchise features Brian, Dominic, and Letty, flanked by Hobbs (Johnson), Han (Sung Kang), Roman (Gibson), and Tej (Chris “Ludicrous” Bridges), in head-to-head combat with a criminal syndicate led by Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). Wan is also producing Insidious 3, executive producing the next Saw film, and gearing up to direct the sequel to The Conjuring. Meanwhile, Johnson will next be seen in San Andreas, while Statham has a supporting role in the upcoming Spy and recently wrapped production on the sequel to The Mechanic.
The grand opening of Fast & Furious – Supercharged will take place on June 25th at Universal Studios Hollywood, while Furious 7 is out in wide release on April 3rd.
