If it seems like the script for Fast Five was written by someone who didn’t have an education level higher than kindergarten, there’s a reason for that.  As the Onion News Network shows on their morning news show, Today Now!, the screenwriter behind the series is 5-year-old Chris Morgan.  After the jump watch the adorable Chris talk about his process in crafting the rich and detailed story behind a Fast and Furious movie.  And the youngster is already at work on a sixth film which may ditch the racing and focus more on heists.  Adorable!

Fast Five stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, and cars going boom.  It opens this Friday.

I’m just kidding about the whole “script was written by a 5-year-old” thing.  I don’t even think Fast Five has a script.

Today Now! Interviews The 5-Year-Old Screenwriter Of “Fast Five”

Here’s the official synopsis for Fast Five, although I prefer young Chris’ description:

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of returning all-stars from every chapter of the explosive franchise built on speed in Fast Five. In this installment, former cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) partners with ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning favorites Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon and Don Omar for this ultimate high-stakes race. Since Brian and Mia Toretto (Brewster) broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail. Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey…before someone else runs them down first.

No way this was written by a five-year-old. I’ve seen the trailers. There’s no way it’s that good.

“I don’t even think Fast Five has a script.”
    LMFAOOOOO.

  • Hunter D.

Actually, Chris Morgan is a very talented guy and very nice to boot.

  • Michael

Well, he is the perfect age for being the screenwriter of Fast Five. :)

This is hilarious, but ironically enough, Fast Five is the best reviewed of the bunch and has a 80% on RT.

jimmymack – never based a film’s rating via Rottentomatoes or any other review. RT ranked Hellboy 2 86%, and that film sucked! Fast Five could either sucked, or be good. let’s hold our judgement until we see it. the greatest review is your own personal review.

      • Aurora

And I thought Hellboy 2 was awesome. *Facepalm* What do you know… opinion is subjective.

      • Tey

Ever since Rotten Tomatoes rated The Curious Case of Benjamin Button a mere 72%. I stopped relying on their reviews. And about Hellboy 2′s 87%, it’s higher than the first and superior one. Erroneous

    • jymmymack

I was commenting on the fact that the newest one is the best reviewed. Not that 8th WAS the greatest movie ever made or even the best of the series. You guys need to chill.

Damn auto-correcting smartphone. That should say ” Not that it was….”

  • Nabster

I must really hate myself because I watched fast 5. It was torture.

Minister of Finance: Here is the Treasury Department’s report, sir. I hope you’ll find it clear.
Rufus T. Firefly: Clear? Huh. Why a four-year-old child could understand this report.
    [to Bob Roland]
Rufus T. Firefly: Run out and find me a four-year-old child, I can’t make head or tail of it.

Have you READ RT? They don’t review the movies, the critics whose reviews they compile (among them the infamous Armond White) do, and the score is the precentage of positive reviews among those critics. So RT doesn’t “give” the movie a score.

    • jymmymack

Exactly. It’s simply the percentage of positive reviews for any given film. RT doesn’t even decide whether a film review is positive, they let the reviewers make that decision.
