We still don’t know how Universal and director James Wan will proceed with Fast & Furious 7 following Paul Walker‘s death.  There’s the possibility of a January restart date and a rumor about having Cody Walker step in to film his brother’s remaining scenes.  Whichever way the production chooses to move forward, Universal has officially given up its original July 11, 2014 release dateVin Diesel has announced on his Facebook page that the movie will now open on April 10, 2015.  While I’m sure Fast & Furious fans will be disappointed by the delay, I’m sure they’ll also understand that moving the date back is the wisest course of action.  It’s currently an easy weekend with Insidious 3 currently being the only competition (we’ll set aside that 2015 somehow became even crazier in terms of blockbusters).  There’s too much goodwill towards the Fast & Furious franchise, and fans want to see Walker’s final performance (assuming Universal will keep him in the movie).

In addition to announcing the release date, Diesel also posted a photo of the last scene he filmed with Walker along with a personal message.  You can check out the image after the jump.

Via Vin Diesel:

The last scene we filmed together…

There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come…

Fast and Furious 7 will be released…

April 10th 2015!

P.s. He’d want you to know first…

Interesting that it’ll be Wan’s old franchise against his new one.

Never was that big a fan of these movies, but I’ve grown a stronger appreciation for them recently. These two always had great brotherly chemistry in the movies, clearly it came from being good friends.

i saw the first FF movie and didn’t like it so i never saw the others. Actually i did walk in during the fifth one i think it was, during a scene where two cars were unrealistically pulling a bank vault or something and causing mass destruction and probably killing hundreds of bystanders, i laughed and walked back out. Is the 6th one on video? i don’t know, they are terrible.

I’m with you in the fact that I didn’t like the first one… nor the second for that matter. But the third (Tokyo Drift) was quite fun and they just upped the ante for the following films while keeping and strengthening (is it correct?) the surrogate family themes the second completely forgot. By the time the 5th movie arrived, I was sold on this franchise and I saw the last one voluntarily. I was really saddened with the news of Walker dying but also touched by his fellow castmate’s reactions. The fact that they are willing to come back to finish the movie gives me hope that the best decisions will be taken to honor Walker, his family and his character. Looking forward to this film more than ever.

I guess I’m going to be too sick to come into work on April 10th, 2015.
