Furious 7 was fun, but I wish it had a larger cast like Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6. Now it looks like Fast & Furious 8 might be beefing up the ranks by turning a cameo into a main character. [Correction: Mendes was a main character in the wholly forgettable 2 Fast 2 Furious.]
On his Instagram page, Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe reports that Eva Mendes, who briefly showed up in the stinger for Fast Five, might be coming back for the eighth installment:
Bringing in Mendes would be a smart move. She’s already technically been introduced, so her connection to other characters would allow her to organically come into the plot. She’s also a likable actor and furthers the Fast & Furious’ series devotion to being the most racially diverse cast for a major blockbuster series.
It’s also a nice change of pace for Mendes, who hasn’t really done an action film since The Spirit, and certainly never on the level of a major franchise like the Fast & Furious series. If she comes on board, it will be interesting to see if Fuentes will become a central character for not only the 8th movie, but for the following sequels as well.
