This April’s Furious 7 is currently the fourth highest grossing movie of all time, with a worldwide take of $1.499 billion. Yes, you read that right. The seventh film in the Fast & Furious franchise is only bested by The Avengers, Titanic, and Avatar on the all-time worldwide chart, which I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around that fact. With this kind of take, it was no surprise that Universal Pictures quickly announced Fast & Furious 8 for release in 2017, and now star/producer/franchise godfather Vin Diesel has offered a tease of what fans can expect in the form of a promo poster.

Revealed on his Instagram account (Diesel loves social media, natch), the unofficial promo poster offers a look at New York City with a hint of blood. Diesel and Co. have actually been teasing the NYC setting of Fast & Furious 8 for a while now, and the original ending of Furious 7 teed up the eight installment as it relates to Kurt Russell’s shady character. But obviously with Paul Walker’s tragic death, the ending of Furious 7 was restructured as a tribute to him.

I’m curious to see what kind of filmmaker Universal brings in to helm Fast & Furious 8. James Wan did a swell job with Furious 7, but given that it was a herculean challenge to salvage and course-correct the movie after Walker’s death, the current thinking seems to be that Wan and Universal will amicably be parting ways re: the FF franchise. Series stalwart Justin Lin is busy with Star Trek Beyond for the next two years, so he’s probably out of the running to return.

Who do you think should direct Fast & Furious 8? Sound off in the comments below Diesel’s Instagram tease.
