First FAULTS Trailer Shows Cult Deprogramming Is Not for Sissies

     February 5, 2015

From its trailer, it seems like Faults takes its cultish plot cues from recent films like Martha Marcy May Marlene or The Master, but replaces their atmospheric drama with that of a gruesome thriller. (Or, y’know, like Big Love in its later seasons).

The (seemingly darkly comedic) movie, from writer/director Riley Sterns (a.k.a. Mr. Winstead), stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Claire, who has fallen under the mysterious grip of a cult called Faults. Claire’s parents, desperate to get her away from the cult’s control, enlist the help of a washed-up expert on mind control, Ansel Roth (Leland Orser) in order to deprogram her. (“Ansel Roth” is a heavy metal band leader name if ever I’ve heard one). However, as is clear from the trailer, the prospect is not an easy one, as Ansel gets more than he bargained for when battling with the steely Claire.

The movie also stars Lance Reddick, Beth Grant, Jon Gries, Leonard Earl Howze and Nicholas Tucci.

Faults debuted at SXSW last year, and was picked up by Screen Media Films. It’s set for a March 6th theatrical release.
