Rather than announce the casting of both leads in Sam Taylor-Johnson‘s Fifty Shades of Grey at the same time, Universal Pictures has decided to break up the announcements but release them within the same hour. Author E.L. James said on her Twitter that Dakota Johnson (Ben and Kate) will be playing the female lead of college student Anastasia Steele, and now James tweets that Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) has the role of Steele’s lover, business magnate Christian Grey. While I wish Universal had just made both announcements at the same time, at least we don’t have to play the casting sweepstakes for the lead male role.
Hit the jump for the press release. Fifty Shades of Grey opens August 1, 2014.
