First Image of Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey in FIFTY SHADES OF GREY

     June 18, 2014

Focus Features has released the first Fifty Shades of Grey image of Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey.  E.L. James‘ best-selling erotic novel centers on Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and her introduction to a whole new world of sexual discovery and risquĂ© activities in the hands of billionaire Christian Grey.  I’m not exactly the target audience for this movie, but I know the male lead being handsome is important.  So by that metric, they’ve nailed it.

Hit the jump to check out the Fifty Shades of Grey image.  The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy), also stars Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Marcia Gay Harden, Max Martini, Eloise Mumford, Dylan Neal, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, and Callum Keith Rennie.  Fifty Shades of Grey opens February 13, 2015.

“I’m not exactly the target audience for this movie”

what is its target then ? 50 year old desperate housewives ?

  • The Flobbit

Why are actors like Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Ehle, and Max Martini involved with this garbage? Does a paycheck weigh more than their artistic integrity and cinematic souls? At least Charlie Hunnam jumped ship, a move that gives me enormous respect for him.

It’s not like any of the actors you mentioned are popular in demand that they get to be picky about the movies they act in. They are mostly doing it for the money I guess..

      • The Flobbit

So I guess that, in this twisted world of show-biz: Money > Acting in a juvenile, poorly written, cliched, insipid, misogynistic, abusive, soft-core porn film?

      • Pk

These movies are utter garbage in every sense but they make serious bank at the box office. Anyways the target audience for these kind of movies are young girls and milfs just like twilight.

      • The Flobbit

Oh what a sad life we lead. But I think the target audience is older than teens – more like those lonely 30 year old women who have nothing better to do with their lives.

Come on Matt, you know you’ve read this nonsense.

It’s right up your sadistic alley.

“Hotly anticipated film adaptation”? If you know ONE person who is hotly anticipating this movie, do two things: schedule intensive electro-shock therapy sessions for him/her, and then break off all ties with said person.

Well the books are wildly popular, just probably not with anyone who reads Collider.

I assume it will do well enough, it’s mostly a question of translating an “adult” book to the screen, particularly one where the audience skews female and older.

I read 50 Shades when it was an Edward / Bella fanfic from Twilight. James got a lot of feedback from reading fans which she incorporated. Then left the fanfic site without even a wave goodbye and went big time. 50 Shades is a dangerous book. If you read it from a different perspective it is a sex manual for training sex slaves. PC Feminists teach women that your body is your own.If you read this sex manual you will know that your body/mind can be conditioned to “salivate” just like a dog. It is horrifying from that POV, because after women buying it to the tune of over 40 million copies, men now know what women want, something Freud did not. Certain women, masses of them, want to be dominated, and this is the market. It’s time in the sun is over however and the film is too late. It will flop.
