First Look at FIFTY SHADES OF GREY’s Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson; Release Date Pushed to February 13, 2015

     November 13, 2013

Following a rather lengthy development period, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie is finally off and running.  The adaptation of the sultry E.L. James novel was thrown a curveball when Charlie Hunnam abruptly dropped out of the male lead role, leaving director Sam Taylor-Johnson scrambling to find a replacement with an August 2014 release date looming.  The Fall actor Jamie Dornan was eventually cast as Hunnam’s replacement opposite Dakota Johnson (Ben & Kate), but now Universal has understandably pushed the film’s release date back a few months.  Instead of going head-to-head with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1, 2014, Fifty Shades of Grey will steam up movie theater screens on February 13, 2015.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

In anticipation of production beginning very soon, the first images of Dornan and Johnson in character as the book’s sex-adventurous duo has been revealed on the latest cover of EW.  Hit the jump to take a look and for release date news for the James Brown biopic Get on Up and the genre redo Dracula Untold.

With its release date shift, Fifty Shades of Grey now enters the movie logjam of 2015.  The only other films currently slated for that Valentine’s Day weekend are the Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride and the animated sequel Spongebob SquarePants 2.

Additionally, director Tate Taylor’s (The Help) James Brown biopic Get on Up will now open in theaters on August 1, 2014 instead of October 17th.  47 star Chadwick Boseman plays Brown and will be surrounded by an impressive supporting cast that includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Dan Aykroyd.  Finally, director Gary Shore’s “origin story” Dracula Untold will open a couple of weeks later on October 17, 2014.  Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, and Sarah Gadon star.

Nevermind that Fifty Shades of Grey started out as terrible Twilight fan-fic (which my wife said was some of the absolute worst she fan-fic she has ever read) or that the story is absolutely asinine.

People need to boycott this because it advocates serious abuse, not a healthy BDSM relationship. I’m all for supporting kink. But this relationship makes Chris Brown look like a saint.

I agree wholeheartedly with all you said. Haven’t read the book either, but if wikipedia is an indication, I honestly don’t know how this plot could be stretched over three book of 300-400 pages each, even with 50 pages long sex scenes. Still, I’m intrigued as to what this movie could have looked like if Paul Verhoeven directed it. Just morbid curiosity.

Hey there again, ender. I think you’d know how boycotting works out. Look at all the fuss over your namesake’s film – Ender’s Game. Hundreds, likely thousands, of people vowed they would not give the movie a CENT of their money, and yet the film achieved more than moderate success at the box office. I do not think boycotting is the right angle here. We need to spread awareness that the film will be what it certainly WILL be – a dangerous, steaming pile of s–t. People will avoid it by nature.

That said, I agree ABSOLUTELY with everything you said. 50 Shades is atrociously written, degrading towards women, men, sex, and fiction in general. The author has not one half-decent writing bone in her body.

Look guys, don’t watch this. But not just because it’s about abuse. Don’t watch this because it is badly written, awfully characterized, cliched, dull, and dangerous to your cinematic sanity. I will boycott this film…if it does anything. In the meantime I will try to spread the truth.

ender’s game totally bombed bro, made less in its opening weekend than lone ranger

      • The Flobbit

Ender’s Game has not yet come to theatres in Asia, and is still in theatres in Hong Kong, so the gross numbers have yet to be official. Having said that, it will not bomb as hard as Lone Ranger.

    • Grayden

People should have boycotted Twilight for the same reasons, although they are of a lesser degree.

Furthermore, if women want to watch a wealthy, mysterious man get all BDSM and erotic with a beautiful, coy woman…go watch ’9 1/2 Weeks’.

    • Oolie zool

Advocates it? Really? It’s a schlock story written by a woman, for women, who eat it up for the “dirty” fantasy that it is. It doesn’t advocate abuse anymore than The Lord of The Rings advocates creating magical rings in an attempt to dominate all life. Get over yourself.

      • enderandrew

She is selling abuse as a fantasy to other women, and there are plenty of people I’ve seen cite the book as a how to guide for people who want to explore kink for the first time.

This guy has the same expression in all the pics , wtf! This is going to be DOA.

    • alk

It’s his “Christian TBD” face. He’s trying to “find” the character still. :-P

    • Querk

This guy should play Hal Jordan in DCU’s. He totally has the face.

  • Idris Elba

Idris Elba needs to fuck these actors.

Both of these characters seem to have some real bad nail-biting habits.

Part of me hopes that somewhere, a massive congregation of sycophantic Fifty Shades fans collectively walked off a cliff after hearing about the delay news. I’m going to hell for thinking this, but that’s fine by me. This movie and book are pure, unadulterated hot garbage.
