I genuinely liked Fifty Shades of Grey more than most, but that will never stop me from having a blast making fun of it. The film is approaching its fourth weekend in theaters, but it’s already accumulated $147.4 million at the domestic box office and a whopping $485.8 million worldwide. Say what you want about Jamie Dornan’s performance, author E.L. James’ demands and the overall quality of the feature adaptation, but the film’s a huge hit. And even if you aren’t particularly thrilled that we may have two more Fifty Shades films on the way, there is a silver lining to the situation; there will be many more opportunities to poke fun at it.
Fifty Shades star Dakota Johnson hosted SNL over the weekend and while the episode did include jokes about the film, an entire sketch about Christian Grey’s “red room of pain” never aired and was just posted as a “Cut for Time” video on the official Saturday Night Live YouTube channel.
Check out “New Playroom” featuring Johnson, Kyle Mooney, Bobby Moynihan and Taran Killam and then tell us what you think in the comments section below. Did this sketch deserve to get cut or should it have replaced the one where Mooney pretends to be a middle school journalist asking Johnson questions at the Fifty Shades press junket?
