As you can see above, the first piece of concept art from Pixar’s Cars 2 has come online [via Disney's annual report], but it doesn’t change my level of indifference towards the film. It feels weird to not be jazzed for an upcoming Pixar movie, but Cars is easily their weakest film. I know kids love it and the merchandise sales for it have been insane, but it lacks the creativity and imagination of their other movies. I have seen every Pixar movie more than once, but I only saw Cars once in theaters (stupidly enough, I own the DVD as it was purchased during my DVD addiction years of 2002-2006).
The art itself isn’t very revealing other than showing us that Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) are going globe-driving. I think new locales will be neat, but this was never a world I wanted to revisit. I would much rather see an Incredibles 2 or Monsters, Inc 2.
Cars 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 24, 2011.

If you've only seen Cars once then you have no idea what you're talking about. It's a film that gets better and better with each view. Because, despite a less creative story, the characters and the world ARE amazingly fun to visit. I don't want a sequel to The Incredibles or Monsters Inc. because those films are perfectly contained stories. Cars has a story that isn't good enough to be lessened in impact by a sequel, and the characters are just so darn charming, and the world is just so beautiful that I am looking forward to see Pixar extend it.
I know you've seen it once…but thats not Mater, its some different character.
The premise for Cars never made me want to see the movie. I simply trusted Pixar to do a good job with it. It probably helped that I brought my little girl to it, but I loved it the first time and have found it a fun ride every single time I've watched it with her again. In particular, the performances are very endearing on all counts. I rate it above Bug's Life, myself. Though… rating Pixar films seems sort of pointless sometimes since they are all so different.
I don't like Cars either, Monsters, Inc sequel would be awesome. The Incredibles on the other hand is a complete rip off of various silver-age comics (Fantastic Four, Superman, Flash), and most importantly the 90's cartoon-masterpiece Freakazoid!
Out of all the recent releases I'd like to see a new Monster, Inc, Wall-E, Finding Nemo and a new Bugs Life movie. If I wanted sequels, I'd rather Pixar simply go about making original movies which it has been pretty good at.
