USA Today has landed the first photo from M. Night Shaymalan’s “The Last Airbender” which is based off the popular Nickelodeon quasi-anime,

“Avatar: The Last Airbender”.  I wonder why they didn’t keep the “Avatar” part of the title…

Basically the photo is a kid in his PJs about to kick your ass. The kid is Aang, the titular “Airbender” (which I always thought would be a great name for an airline run by a hard-drinking, unscrupulous robot), and he’s played by Noah Ringer who looks like he was custom-made for the role since he keeps his head shaved (I have a hard time believing that) and is already an expert in martial arts (which he probably had to learn when he kept getting his ass kicked for being the only bald kid in his elementary school).

There’s also a photo “Slumdog Millionaire’s” Dev Patel as the villainous Zuko (who is actually a character of Chinese origin in the show but all foreigners are apparently the same so whatevs) which you can check out after the jump.

The kids left hand is an upside down fist. You have to look intently to see it, but yeah.

Although I am not happy with the Aang choice and do not get me start with Zoko’s invisible’s face scar and lack of a shaved head only for his ponny tail (but I am happy with Dev Patel choice). I must said, this is NOT a Asian cartoon. This cartoon was created by Americans.

This cartoon very differs from othes cartoons which were made in anime-style,(like dragonball and streetfighter)! its the best cartoon I”ve ever seen; perfect animation, perfect story, perfect end of this cartoon made it the most succsesful anime (lot of awards; Emmy, KCA and etc) Hope that M.N.Shyamalan won”t fail millions of fans

Actually The Last Airbender cartoon was not Asian. It’s an American cartoon, but the animation was done in Korea(correct me if I’m wrong), so that’s the reason of the anime style of the show.
The success of this cartoon wasn’t because of the anime style drawings, it was because it had a story, thing that is well known that lacks in almost every American cartoon, and this one excelled for having a good one.
The animation had really good quality when the last season was released, before that, it was just fine.

And lets face it, martial arts and Asian culture is a good combination, no wonder why western cultures have a liking to these richer cultures.

Disrespect to the characters is a fatal flaw in this movie. Wrong casting can led this to an epic fail. Hope they don’t blow up the story.
