The trailer for Zack Snyder’s latest, Legend of the Guardians, is now online thanks to Yahoo Movies.  It’s an animated film from the people behind Happy Feet and is based on the Guardians of Ga’Hoole children’s novels. The title was just (thankfully) changed from that and this trailer will be attached to prints of Alice in Wonderland. It was also just announced that this, along with Snyder’s follow up Sucker Punch, will be released in 3D.

Personally, I’m loving the artistry of this trailer.  The music gives it a very Where The Wild Things Are feel and the look closely resembles 300, if 300 stared a bunch of CG owls.  Making Legend of the Guardians seem even more epic is the insane voice cast.  There’s Sam Neill, Hugo Weaving, Emilie de Ravin, Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Helen Mirren, Abbie Cornish, David Wenham and many more.

The film will be released in prime 2011 Best Animated Feature Oscar consideration time on September 24, 2010. After the jump, check out the trailer itself, still photos and the official plot synopsis.

And here’s the official plot synopsis:

“The film follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father’s favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd’s jealousy has terrible consequences-causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians of Ga’Hoole-Soren’s only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.”

Music doesn't sound anything like Wild Things to me which was composed with Karen O, so it sounded more like Yeah Yeah Yeahs; this music is from a crappy band called 30 Seconds From Mars which at least in my opinion is not even in the same league as the YYY's, let alone in the same genre (american rock/metal vs. indie art rock).

Still a pretty good trailer, despite the ear-bleeding music that distracts from the dialogue and the total rip off of 300's voice-over. I do like that Hugo Weaving was the narrator though. :] The visuals are amazing.

    wtf?
    Dawn of dead: very good
    300: excellent
    Watchmen: excellent+
Legend of the Guardians: what happend zack? a movie about mighty owls?

I feel nothing with this trailer, a couple of birds flying with a buch of sparkling lights

    greetings, David

Yeah Watchmen was only half-decent, it was way to long and took forever to get going. All in all it wasn’t terrible, but still not as good as it should have been; they just needed someone to cut the 40 minutes of bs out of it.

    Owls suck.
Watchmen sucked except for the Rorschach parts.

This will be the greatest movie ever made that features animated Owls.
