I thought For a Good Time, Call… was an enjoyable albeit forgettable flick that relied heavily on dirty words for laughs.  The film centers on a pair of roommates who bond when they go into business as phone sex operators.  The red-band trailer did a good job of summing up the plot and humor, but the new green band trailer can only deliver the plot synopsis because dirty words are the devil’s language and thus not appropriate for all audiences.  I would recommend watching the red-band and green-band trailers back-to-back so you can marvel at the comparison of how bland the film looks when it can’t rely on its filthy-language hook.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film stars Ari Graynor, Lauren Anne Miller, Justin Long, James Wolk, and Mark WebberFor a Good Time, Call… opens in limited release on August 31st.

Here’s the official synopsis for For a Good Time, Call…:

The reserved Lauren (played by Lauren Anne Miller) and the irrepressible Katie (Ari Graynor) are polar opposites… and past enemies. But when both come up short on the funds needed to afford their dream New York City apartment a mutual friend (Justin Long) re-introduces them and they reluctantly agree to room together. These apartment-mates have nothing in common – until Lauren discovers that Katie is working as a phone-sex operator, and recognizes a good business opportunity. But as their business partnership takes off, their newfound friendship finds unexpected challenges that may leave them both, as they say, hanging on the telephone.

I 100% disagree. The green band trailer had me. The dirty words aren’t needed to make the preview fun. Considering it’s a movie about female friendship, written by women, and directed by a very “out” gay man who loves women & made some of the best short films I’ve seen in ages, I’m looking forward to the art direction and sex jokes. I’m also excited to have a choice in the theater for a fun summer movie, that doesn’t involve: romance, gore porn, Adam Sandler, animation, explosions, mass weaponry, and/or superheroes. Usually, my only options are art and foreign films, which I love, but a silly, stylized, raunchy girl movie is welcome more than once a year (and I didn’t really love Bridesmaids, but it opened the door a little wider for “R” rated female, buddy, comedies). Obviously, I need to see it, prior to making any further arguments, but I’m willing to expect nothing but a few laughs, if it brings more women to the Hollywood table. I believe they’re only bound to get better with more options open. By the way, why can’t I find any female writers on this site?

what she said! going out on a limb here, but maybs the movie is intended for the ladies and most guys enjoy it because it’s got funny crap in it too???? i’m so beyond tired of your GI joes and whoever decided girls can only watch the vow and what to expect when youre expecting. EXCITED FOR THIS. you can’t stop us. we’re the ones who saw TITANIC until it made 2 billion bucks.
