We’ve got a couple of casting announcements to attend to this evening.  First up, The Wrap reports that Forest Whitaker is in talks to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in director Antoine Fuqua’s (Training Day) boxing drama Southpaw.  The story revolves around a left-handed boxer who wins a title but suffers various tragedies in his personal life, all while trying to win back the love of his daughter.  Gyllenhaal plays the titular fighter, while Whitaker will fill the other lead as a former fighter who now works as a trainer.  The script was penned by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter and at one point had Eminem attached to star.  Production begins this summer.

Additionally, The Wrap reports that the cast of director Daniel Barnz’s (Won’t Back Down) indie Cake will be filled out by Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, Chris Messina, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Britt Robertson, Lucy Walters, Camille Mana, Manuel Garcia Rulfo, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.  Jennifer Aniston stars as a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a member of her chronic pain support group.  When she starts delving into the woman’s life, she develops a relationship with her widower and grapples with her own personal tragedy.

Kendrick will play Nina, the woman who commits suicide, while Worthington will play Nina’s husband.  Nina apparently appears as a ghost, taunting Aniston’s character. Additionally, Messina will play Aniston’s ex-husband and Huffman fills the role of the support group facilitator.  Kendrick recently wrapped the role of Cinderella in Disney's big-scale musical Into the Woods, which opens this Christmas, and also stars in the indie musical The Last 5 Years.  In addition to Cake, she also has Pitch Perfect 2 on tap to film this year.  As for Worthington, he's currently filming the survival drama Everest and is due back to shoot the three Avatar sequels late this year.
