We’ve heard from ABC, NBC and CBS. Now it’s time to reveal the new shows Fox picked up as well. First the network announced series orders for the comedies The Grinder, Grandfathered, The Guide to Surviving Life and the medical drama Rosewood, after that it was The Frankenstein Code and now Deadline is reporting that Fox picked up Minority Report and Lucifer as well.
Let’s start with Lucifer. Fox put in an order for a pilot back in February and apparently the network is happy with what Warner Bros. TV, DC Comics and Jerry Bruckheimer Television delivered because the show is moving forward. It stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer, the Lord of Hell. He’s bored and unhappy so opts to ditch his throne in the underworld and move to Los Angeles where he has some fun helping the LAPD punish criminals. Lucifer also stars Lauren German, Rachael Harris, DB Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Nicholas Gonzalez and Scarlett Estevez.
Deadline points out that Minority Report’s pickup was “never in doubt,” but now it’s official. The show is set in 2065, 10 years after the end of PreCrime, a police force that once apprehended criminals before they even committed the crime using three precogs with the ability to see the future. However, now crimefighting is all about the use of sophisticated and trusted technology, not the instincts of the precogs. Here’s more from the show’s official synopsis:
Precog DASH (Stark Sands, “Inside Llewyn Davis”) – driven by his terrifying, but fragmented visions – now has returned in secret to help a brash, but shrewd, police detective, LARA VEGA (Meagan Good, “Think Like A Man” franchise, “Californication”), attempt to stop the murders that he predicts. As they navigate this future America, they will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, ARTHUR, and elude others who will stop at nothing to exploit their precog abilities. Also complicating matters is Dash and Arthur’s ingenious, but reclusive, foster sister, AGATHA (Laura Regan, “Mad Men,” “Unbreakable”), who just wants Dash to return home.
The Frankenstein Code is inspired by the iconic Mary Shelley mythology and features Rob Kazinsky as Jimmy Pritchard, a corrupt retired cop who’s given a second chance when he’s brought back from the dead and challenged to decide between his old ways and his new sense of purpose. Michael Cuesta is on board as an executive producer and also directed the pilot episode.
According to Deadline, Rosewood is a medical drama that earned high praise for Morris Chestnut’s work. He leads the closed-ended procedural as Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr., a private pathologist who owns a state-of-the-art independent lab in Miami. Thanks to all of his hi-tech equipment, Rosewood manages to track down clues in bodies that most miss.
THR dubbed Grandfathered "the network's most-likely comedy to go." The single-camera show stars John Stamos as a version of himself, a charismatic longtime bachelor who suddenly finds out that he’s a father - and a grandfather. The Guide to Surviving Life is "the sleeper hit of the season" and "tested through the roof." It stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Cooper Barrett, a 26-year-old who helps the youth of America survive their 20s by sharing his own cautionary tales on camera.
Last up we’ve got The Grinder, a single-camera legal family comedy from Andrew Mogel, Jarrad Paul and Nick Stoller. Rob Lowe leads as TV lawyer Dean Sanderson, nicknamed The Grinder. When his hit show comes to an end, Sanderson decides to move back to his tiny home town under the impression that he’s got the knowhow to take over his family’s firm.
