On the heels of the official series order for Gotham, Fox has picked up two more new dramas:

  • Octavia Spencer stars in Red Band Society, a coming-of-age dramedy set in a big city hospital.  According to Deadline, Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire) will adapt the Spanish series Polseres Vermelles.  It should a fruitful premise if Nagle can pull off the tricky tone.
  • Empire is a family drama that centers on a hip-hop superstar (Terrence Howard) and his wife (Taraji P. Henson).  Lee Daniels (The Butler) directed the pilot and will executive produce with Danny Strong (Game Change) and Brian Grazer (24).  Timbaland will supervise the music.  I trust Howard and Henson to make Empire as enjoyable as their last foray into the rap world, Hustle & Flow.

Additionally, Deadline reports Fox has ordered 10 more episodes of Mulaney, bringing the total order up to 16 episodes.  I love John Mulaney's standup, so I am happy to see him get a long leash for his multi-camera about an up-and-coming standup comedian.
