Release dates have been announced for two very promising projects. First up, Moneyball director Bennett Miller’s new drama Foxcatcher will finally arrive in theaters on November 14th of this year. The pic was originally slated for release last fall, before Sony Pictures Classics pushed it to 2014 in order to get out of the incredibly competitive awards season pile-up. The film tells the true story of Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo), and their relationship with eccentric millionaire John du Pont (Steve Carell).
Based on the incredible first trailer, this looks to be a serious awards contender, and its November release date puts it in prime position to take advantage of the buzz. The pic will square off against Dumb and Dumber To and the WWII actioner Fury on its date, but again, this is all about riding the buzz through the December awards voting period. It’ll have a nice head start, as Foxcatcher has its world premiere next month at the Cannes Film Festival. Hit the jump for release date news concerning the new Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy.
Additionally, Universal Pictures has announced that The Nest will open in theaters on December 18, 2015—the same date as J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated sequel Star Wars: Episode VII. Directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), the film stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as two estranged sisters who reunite for one last blow out when their parents decide to sell the family home. Fey is also producing the pic while Poehler is executive producing, and The Nest boasts a script by SNL and 30 Rock alum Paula Pell. Promising pedigree all around. Read the official synopsis below.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for THE NEST, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need. Fey produces the comedy alongside Jay Roach (Meet the Parents series), and Poehler executive produces from a script by Paula Pell (TV’s Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock).
