Despite desperate pleas from both myself and an open letter from series writer/creator Kyle Killen, Fox has made Lone Star the first casualty of the new season of TV. After the pilot performed so poorly last week, executives were watching closely to see if there would be any improvement after the shock and awe of The Event had worn out. Unfortunately, there was no improvement in the ratings and after only two episodes Lone Star will never again see the light of day. Starting next Monday, the 9/8c timeslot will be filled by new episodes of the third season of Lie to Me. The only good news is apparently The Event lost a whopping 19% of of its viewers yesterday, so hopefully that series will get canned just to ease the pain. RIP Lone Star, we hardly knew ye.

This REALLY sucks. To get canceled two episodes into your run is truly remarkable. I personally don’t think the show got enough exposure to be a hit in such a contested timeslot. I knew all about CHASE and THE EVENT for quite a while. I knew next to nothing about Lone Star except a few days before the premiere. Perhaps it is the lack of FOX programming I watch, but maybe this is WHY I don’t watch many FOX shows. I loved the pilot and was definitely on board for the ride.

I know misery loves company and all that, but come on now, it’s really not THE EVƎNT’s fault that Lone Star got cancelled (well, not directly, anyway). FOX would have been better off putting it in a different time slot and promoting it heavier, and it’s rather ridiculous in my opinion to cancel a show outright after two episodes without trying some sort of time slot shuffle.

Besides, THE EVƎNT looks like it could have some potential. I agree that the Pilot did a poor job of setting up the series, but the second episode showed some improvement. It really doesn’t do any good to lose two brand new series.

Probably the best new show this season. Bummer. As a long time Tivo user and one who will watch Hulu, etc. when necessary, I’m frustrated that most people are still slaves to time slots and competition therein. It feels so pointless to anyone else like me that has been outside of that for years.

    I also loved Journeyman. *sigh*.

This is no Surprise but then again in the sad world we live in it’s just how network television works. I bet you anything this show would of done a whole lot better if A. It was on a cable network and B. They promoted the shit out of it. Television shows outside networks don’t have to worry about ratings because they get there money from the prescribers why do you think you find more intelligent television like Mad Men or Dexter on HBO and not NBC or Fox for that matter? LCD. But don’t worry there is a pretty good chance network television will all go to cable one day leaving your local television to syndicated shows. It just sucks you have to pay for intelligence in this world.

WTF, how is FRINGE, LIE TO ME remain on the air ? LONESTAR was an intelligent well acted show which needs time for characters and storylines to develop. This is why I no longer watch network TV, let alone FOX.

Time isn’t what LONESTAR needed, it needed more promotion and different time slot.

and how can you say fringe shouldn’t be on the air? it is a solid show with an amazing cast.

Fringe and Lie to Me are both EXCELLANT shows and are in NO danger of being cancelled…that is not even a fair comparison. Lone Star was too slow moving to gain enough momentum to stay on air. I do agree with the article though that The Event will be the next show to be canceled…the 10 minutes I watched were horrible!

I actually love Lie to Me. It’s the best show of the mystery genre out there right now and Tim Roth is a genius.

That said, Lone Star was great. Too many shows fall into that 1 of 3 category we all know. I miss Kings, Pushing Daisies, and now Lone Star that tried to break out of the box. When will FOX learn that something will ALWAYS be in last place?

P.S. I’m not watching The Event. I figure if it goes to season 2, then I’ll give it a look

The first time I ever even heard that this show existed was ON THIS SITE. I never saw a single ad or mention of it anywhere else in the general TV commercials.

That sucks. It was my favorite new show. I totally knew it would get cancelled though. It wasn’t promoted at all. Did FOX even see the show? Did they know how good it was?
There was more suspense about Bob’s missing cell phone than all the new shows combined. The acting was great. The writing was tight. I was looking forward to next week’s episode. WOW. oh well.
It didn’t even get a chance to build a small audience and maybe catch on somewhere else.

I just noticed you misspelled “cancelled” in the headline.

Meh, there’s better show on the tube anyways. No big loss.
FX, AMC etc. and still have The Walking Dead coming up!

I guess the schwartz wasn’t with this Lonestar!! AHHAHAHAHAH…

    end of line

This is typical Fox b/s. They are part of the reason why Dollhouse sucked. I believe it was the sixth episode where the show picked up and they let the audience know what was really happening, and people said, “wow, if that episode was shown first they would have been more into the show,” and of course that episode was supposed to be the first episode but Fox didn’t want it to be. They didn’t show the episodes of Firefly in order. They canceled Drive right as it was getting good. Even Point Pleasant, even though I didn’t like it at first because I thought it was just another show with privileged white kids and their drama, wasn’t bad for what it was and they could have done something interesting if it wasn’t axed. I was watching Lone Star and the show had potential but needed time to build on its story. Now here’s what I think. If you have a show and you know that you need to take time to build on your characters and build your story towards something, then you shouldn’t shop your show around to network television. Shop around the cable networks because you’ll have a better chance of telling the type of story you want to tell.

I really liked the show. It never fails that once you like a show they take it off the air and put on something stupid in its place. They need to take off Survior and Amazing Race off the t.v. nobody cares about them 2 dumbs shows.

  13. George @

Definitely one of the better shows to have launched. Some turkey in a suit needs to review and change the decision. Great show. Real potential!!!!
Plenty of really crappy shows to have canned before this one.

I am disappointed in Fox. How can you cancel a show after 2 episodes? I agree with some of the comments below…Fox did not promote this show enough. This was a good show.

  15. Billyd @

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Why couldn’t they just reschedule the show? It was the best 2 episodes of any series I have EVER seen. There was nothing slow about it. FOX YOU SUCK!!!!!!!

  16. Edelinej @

why they always cancelled the good shows? the network never give these shows a chance to grow. is they any way they could put lone star in a different network.

  17. Kelsey @

I think that AMC should grab Lone Star while they can. To me, Lone Star seems more like a show that would do great on AMC than Fox. I hate how Fox barely even gave it a chance and canceled after only two episodes.
