The fact that Charlie Kaufman is making a new film is, in and of itself, incredibly enticing. The fact that Kafuman’s new film will focus on the back-and-forth between an online movie blogger and a filmmaker ups the interest level even more. Now Kevin Kline has joined the cast of Frank or Francis and will be playing two supporting roles, bringing my excitement level into the “dangerous to your health” category. Variety reports that Kline has joined the Hollywood satire that features Jack Black, Steve Carell, and Nicolas Cage. Black plays an Internet troll who writes movie reviews for a living, while Carell is playing a somewhat pretentious filmmaker who happens to be cheating on his wife. As for Cage? He’s playing a character called The Emcee, an actor famous for big-budget commercial fare whose last hit was the movie Fat Dad. Obviously.

Hit the jump for more, including details on Kline’s incredibly strange roles.

charlie-kaufman-imageAccording to the report, Kline will be playing a character named Richard, the brother of a director whose calling card is Hiroshima, the highest grossing film of all time. Additionally, Kline will be playing Richard’s Head, which is an animatronic head that helps Richard’s brother “develop a completely inoffensive product that will have the broadest possible appeal and zero artistic integrity.” So, yeah. Never doubt Kaufman’s knack for the unique.

As previously reported, Frank or Francis will also be a bit of a musical. Kaufman stated that it’s not a musical of the conventional sort, but it has about 50 songs in it. Kaufman is, of course, responsible for writing such fantastic fare as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation. He made his directorial debut in 2008 with Synecdoce, New York. Production on Frank or Francis is schedule to begin in January.

Oh, thank you, Collider! Between the news of this film and the news of Kurt Russel possibly stepping in for Kevin Costner in Django; you’ve made my day! Some of the most perfct casting choices in 2 of my most anticipated films. Movie geek bliss. Jack Black as movie blogger troll?! Steve Carrell as a pretentious filmmaker?! Nicolas Cage as Adam Sandler?! The movie practically writes itself! And, don’t get me started on Kurt Russell. Thanks again, Collider (and Tarantino and Kaufman) you’ve made my Sunday morning giddy! I’m typing this into my iPhone, with a giant goofy grin splashed across my face, suppressing giggles as I try not to wake up my wife lying next to me. I’m gonna go make coffee now and dream of these 2 movies. My faith in Hollywood and movie blogs restored!
