A new trailer for director Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated film Frankenweenie was shown to fans at Comic-Con earlier today (you can read our recap of the panel right here), and now Disney has released the clip for the general public to see.  It’s a great throwback to black-and-white monster movies and horror TV shows of yesteryear, and I sincerely hope that this is the tone that permeates throughout the whole movie.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film features the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, and Martin LandauFrankenweenie opens in 3D on October 5th.

Here’s the synopsis for Frankenweenie:

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

  1. I saw the original live action short as a pre-main event for The Beastmaster in I think 1982 as a kid.

That was the only time i saw it and now this remake has not only bought back great memories, but this stop motion looks gorgeous! And the retro black and white looks like its nailed the brilliance of films like Ed Wood, and The Artist aswell as truly capturing that good ole 90s Tim Burton style that seems to have gone walkabout since Planet of the apes. A return to form.
