Magnolia Pictures has released the opening scene of the upcoming documentary Freakonomics.  The film is an anthology where different directors visualized chapters from the best-selling book by economist Steven Levitt and journalist Stephen J. Dubner.  The directors involved are Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side), Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight), and Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing (Jesus Camp).

The opening scene and transitions in the film were handled by Seth Gordon (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters).  The opening scene does a good job of setting the tone for the film and provides a nice visualization about why your realtor doesn’t have your best interests at heart.  Hit the jump to check out the clip.  Freakonomics opens in theaters on Friday but you can click here to rent it from iTunes.

Here’s the official synopsis for Freakonomics:

Alex Gibney delivers a visually arresting look at the crumbling facade of Sumo wrestling and exposes searing and violent truths about this ancient and revered sport. Morgan Spurlock offers up a buoyant and revealing angle on the repercussions of baby names. Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing balance levity and candor with their eye-opening profile of underachieving kids incentivized to learn with cold hard cash. Finally, Eugene Jarecki investigates an unsettling theory to explain why crime rates dramatically dropped in the early ’90s. Seth Gordon weaves the pieces together with brisk interludes, providing context and commentary from the authors.

part of the reason the realtor makes out with more profit is because he represents himself in the transaction and often times, the buyer’s party as well. but they’re right, incentives motivate. can’t lie, if i was the realtor, i would hold out for the stronger buyer too. but i wouldn’t shaft my clients either.
