See the Entire FREAKS AND GEEKS Cast Reunited

     December 6, 2012

The longevity of Paul Feig and Judd Apatow’s short-lived 1999 series Freaks and Geeks is both astounding and ironic.  The show was ahead of its time and faced considerable opposition from its home network, NBC, throughout its one-season run.  Over the years, though, Freaks and Geeks has amassed a legion of fans and acted as the launching pad for countless careers.  The main cast of James Franco, Jason Segel, and Seth Rogen now reads like an all-star comedy lineup, not to mention the ridiculous number of stars that had bit parts in the series like Rashida Jones, Jason Schwartzman, Shia LaBeouf, Ben Foster, Lizzy Caplan, and David Krumholtz.

Most of the show’s cast came together for a reunion at PaleyFest last year, but for the upcoming comedy issue of Vanity Fair (guest edited by Apatow), the entire cast and crew was assembled for “An Oral History of Freaks and Geeks.”  In addition to the fascinating article itself, VF has released a number of cast reunion images.  Hit the jump to take a look.

I would pay a million dollars to see a reunion episode.

So glad so many people have finally jumped on the band wagon! Freaks and Geeks is my all-time favorite TV show and NBC (and Dreamworks) really dropped the ball so many years ago! Thanks, Vanity Fair, for helping give the show its due…..

Always wanted to see this show, for some reason I’ve yet to. But I’m a sucker for shows that were killed before they had their chance to blossom. My three favorite shows ever are Studio 60, Sports Night and Firefly, which combined for less than 4 season total…

And I’ve always been a sucker for reunions like this. Cool story, good article, will likely watch this show soon, too many people have recommended it for me to ignore.

I’d creamed if Aaron Sorkin cameo the cast of Sport Night on his current show, The Newsroom.

  • Jimmy B

I would pay two million dollars to see a reunion episode.

  • Matty

Looks like a pretty white show.

    • Norris

      Your point?

      • Matty

        I’m black.

      • Colin Biggs

They get the unfair advantage of starting first in chess?

      • Matty

Yeah, looks like a modern American high school all over.

    • LP

I don’t see why that’d be an issue, and I’m ASIAN (one of the most marginalized ethnicities in Hollywood). I don’t want to have the same problem they have. At least you have your own network.

    • IsThisIt

I’m going to find posts about the Madea movies and point out that they’re black. The world must know!

    • Norris

It’s a Canadian show that takes place in 1980 Michigan suburbs, I think it being mostly white is pretty realistic. The writers wrote what they knew, and the show was incredibly honest. Writing in minority characters just to appease people would have been a bad decision.

  • Mars

I think it’s funny how the kid who played Sam (who was tiny) turned out to be the tallest out of everyone. He dwarfs Rogen and Franco.

  • Andrew

    Where was Ben Foster?

    • VicManMan

He was only in the pilot wasn’t he? (I wish he was in more though)

      • k

He was actually in two episodes – the pilot and “Carded and Discarded” – the geeks use him to lure the new dreamgirl, Maureen, away from Vicki Applebee the uber-popular cheerleader. They tell him that Vicki doesn’t think “Three’s Company” is funny and Foster goes off on her – he was AMAZING in the brief screen time he had on that show!

    • jimmyevil

      And Shia La Beouf?

    • Sean

Those are guest stars not cast

  • daveyboy

Ha ha, Samm Levine looks exactly the same.

    • LEM

Except when he grows a beard and becomes Lil’ Wolverine.

  • sense 11

  • internetasshole

Linda Cardellini is so freaking hot

  • m.hamill

yeah i think cardinelli was strapped down for the bulk of the series if you know what i mean asshole , and yeah its a white show , for white people, just like all of madea’s shit shows are for black people, deal with it

    • Pocketses

      Someone’s too aggressive.

  • Matty

Yeah, looks like a modern American high school all over.
