With only one major new release out this weekend (and a lowly comedy at that) the good folks behind the Clash of the Titans remake were hoping for a second week at the top of the box office. Too bad that the lowly comedy in question happened to star two of the most popular comedians of the past few years: Steve Carell and Tina Fey. Fox’s Date Night, featuring the affable TV stars doing their best Jack Lemmon/Sandy Dennis impersonations, opened at number one on Friday with $9.3 million from its 3,374 locations. That puts Date Night on track to surpass Fox’s projections with a total weekend take over $25 million. Meanwhile, those multi-dimensional Titans experienced a big drop of nearly 70% over last Friday’s holiday debut, though they could still come out on top with a good showing on Saturday. Check back tomorrow to see how it all shakes out.
