Another week, another record-shattering haul for James Cameron’s Avatar. After becoming the highest-grossing film of all-time at the worldwide box office last Monday, Avatar continued its occupation of the top spot on Friday with an estimated $7.5 million. Weekend projections are for just under $30 million which means that it will be another week or so before Avatar can overtake Titanic‘s $600.8 million domestic record. The return of Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness was good for an estimated $5.7 million which – considering that the guy’s been MIA for the better part of a decade – isn’t so good at all. Even worse was in store for Disney’s When in Rome. The romantic comedy starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel opened to just $4.3 million on Friday, though I have a feeling they can’t blame that one on the Avatar-effect. Full weekend estimates when you check back tomorrow.
