This weekend is our last before Avengers: Age of Ultron brings the hammer down on the domestic box office. The sequel started its international rollout on Wednesday and took first place in all of its initial markets. In its first two days, Ultron earned $44.8 million. That’s a drop in the bucket compared to the deluge to come, as evidenced by the fact that the film is already outpacing Marvel’s The Avengers and Iron Man 3 overseas.

With so much attention focused on next week – when the official summer box office season begins here in North America – it’s no wonder that this weekend’s box office feels a bit subdued by comparison. The good news for Universal is that Furious 7 should have no trouble holding on to first place for a very rare fourth consecutive frame. The last film to spend four weeks in first place was The Hunger Games, back in 2012. Guardians of the Galaxy also claimed four wins last summer, though they were not consecutive.

Friday’s estimate for Furious 7 came in at $4.8 million, which indicates a fourth weekend in the $17 million range. The film passed $300 million in domestic grosses on Wednesday and brought its North American cume up to $307 million as of Friday. Worldwide, Furious 7 has now earned an estimated $1.228 billion. That total includes the nearly $250 million that China contributed through last weekend and makes Furious 7 the sixth highest-grossing title of all-time at the global box office.

Despite the fact that Furious 7 will hold on to its title for a fourth weekend, the blockbuster lost Friday’s box office battle to The Age of Adaline. The PG-13 drama starring Blake Lively earned an estimated $4.96 million from 2,991 locations yesterday. For the weekend, Adaline should open with approximately $13.5 million, which is a bit higher than pre-release expectations.

After two weeks in limited release, Ex Machina expanded to 1,255 locations on Friday. The sci-fi drama earned an estimated $1.7 million, which suggests a weekend gross in the $5 million range. Finally, the faith-based feature Little Boy debuted in 1,045 locations on yesterday. Produced by Son of God producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, Little Boy earned an estimated $1.35 million on its first day and should end the weekend with just over $3 million.
