Friday Box Office – THE PROPOSAL Sees a More Than Modest Debut with $12.4 Million

Another week of weak sauce at the box office has led to another surprise upset. On Thursday it looked as if it would be a three-way fight for the top spot as “The Hangover” put its two-week winning streak up against new comedy challengers “The Proposal” and “Year One”. In this lackluster June all three films were expected to bring in weekend totals in the $20 million range. Instead, it was a fight to see who would come in second as Disney’s “The Proposal” became the clear box-office winner with over $12 million in grosses. This makes the film the biggest opener of Sandra Bullock’s career and puts it on track for a weekend take above $30 million. It’s still anyone’s race for number two as “The Hangover” and Sony’s “Year One” both brought in around $8.5 million. Check back tomorrow to see who gets the upper hand…
