Folks, we here at Collider strive to be as honest as possible in our box office reporting, which means it's my duty to relay to you that this Friday at the box office was boring as balls. M. Night Shyamalan's Glass won out for the third time in a row, taking in $2.76 million on its way to what's looking like a $9 million weekend. Studios tend to stay away from Super Bowl weekend as a time to debut films, with Miss Bala showing up to prove why. Catherine Hardwicke's drug cartel drama starring Gina Rodriguez premiered to a not-fantastic $2.75 million, staring down a first frame in the $6 million range.

Miss Bala—a remake of director Gerardo Naranjo's 2011 film of the same name—stars Rodriguez as Gloria, a makeup artist pulled into a war between the DEA and the Mexican cartel in Tijuana. Scripted by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the film marks Rodriguez's first major move into leading a studio film after her Golden Globe-winning stint on the CW's Jane the Virgin and a supporting role in last year's utterly wacky Annihilation.

Rounding out the top five on Friday night were a whole lot of familiar faces still holding steady over a slow weekend, including The Upside ($2.5 million) and Aquaman ($1.2 million). Green Book saw a bit of a resurgence, tying Aquaman with $1.2 million.

Meanwhile, Joe Cornish's King Arthur update The Kid Who Would Be King plummeted on down the box office rankings, taking in just over $1 million in its second Friday night. Steven Knight's Serenity starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway fared even worse, landing in eleventh place with $565,000.
